Career Development in Practice Victorian Government Schools

The Victorian Department of Education funded a series of 2-day CDIP workshops aimed at supporting:
- new or recently recruited career practitioners in government schools who have limited experience in delivering career education (2 years or less experience as a career practitioner)
- other government school staff who are currently supporting career education activities in their school
- career practitioners and other government school staff with tailored content focused on career education for students with disability and additional needs.

The CDIP workshop explored:
- Development and delivery of career services in schools
- Understanding and using career education frameworks
- Development of career education curriculum as a whole school approach
- A day in the life of a career practitioner
- Role and responsibilities of career practitioners including ethical practice
- Understanding the Career Industry Council of Australia Industry Professional Standards for Career Development for Career Development Practitioners and the Australian Blueprint for Career Development (ABCD)
- Sourcing labour market data and using it effectively to support students, teachers, and parents
- System knowledge and initiatives – education, training, and employment understanding how systems are integrated.
- Using the Career Education Planning and Improvement (CEPI) Tool to self-evaluate and report on school career education activities
- Role and importance of Professional Membership and ongoing Professional Development.
