About us
Anglicare Victoria works with children and families to build better tomorrows. We work with them to find solutions for children in need, create opportunities and pathways for young people, and provide tools and support for families to stay together. Real-world problems don’t fit into neat boxes, so we build flexible solutions around each family’s unique challenges and strengths. We find innovative ways to overcome challenges and to make the system better. Overcoming these challenges means we never stand still. Our staff draw on the best evidence and research and offers understanding, expertise and hands-on experience. We help children and families reach their full potential and improve life for everyone. Every day our clients face their challenges and achieve great things. The work they do is never easy, and neither is ours. But it has never been more necessary. Together, we can meet those challenges. This means children and young people who are safe and strong, happier and healthier homes and families, and better future for everyone. We work for better.

Today marks the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, a global campaign that brings together individuals and organisations to help end violence in all its forms. This campaign begins with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and ends on 10 December, International Human Rights Day. These dates remind us that gender-based violence, including violence against women, is not only a social issue but a serious violation of human rights. At Anglicare Victoria, we are committed to building a community based on safety, respect, and equality. Over the next 16 days, we encourage everyone to learn more about family violence, its impact on victim survivors, families, and children, and the steps we can take to prevent it. We’ve compiled a list of events and activities happening across Victoria. We invite you to take part, challenge harmful norms, and help create a safer future for all. Explore the full list of events and activities happening across Victoria here: https://lnkd.in/gqBMSTkV Everyone deserves to live free from violence. In partnership with @Respect Victoria, we encourage you to learn more and take action. If you or someone you know is affected by family violence, please remember you are not alone. What makes Anglicare Victoria an inclusive organisation? As part of #InclusionAtWorkWeek, we’re proud to share reflections from one of our valued team members on what inclusion means in practice. Kudzi Sibanda, Project Manager at AV, shares: “When you share a passion and a vision, everyone can feel included.” Kudzi’s words speak to the power of shared purpose in creating a workplace where people feel seen, heard and valued. She is also a participant in the RISE Project (Realise, Inspire, Support, Energise) - an initiative led by Diversity Council Australia that supports culturally and racially marginalised (CARM) women to access leadership opportunities. At AV, we believe workplaces have a vital role to play in creating safe, equitable environments where everyone can contribute and reach their potential, regardless of who they are. We’re proud to stand alongside @Diversity Council Australia Ltd and other organisations across the country working to make inclusion real. 🔗 Learn more about the RISE Project: https://lnkd.in/g5C_NcKu #InclusionAtWorkWeek #RISEProject #Leadership #EquityInAction #CARMWomen #AnglicareVictoria #InclusiveWorkplaces #DiversityAndInclusion Diversity Council Australia Ltd

This week, Anglicare Victoria is proud to celebrate #InclusionAtWorkWeek with Diversity Council Australia Ltd and all Australian organisations working to build inclusive workplaces. Workplaces have an important role to play in creating safe, equitable environments where everyone has the opportunity to contribute and reach their potential, regardless of who they are. At AV, inclusion is more than a value, it’s a commitment. We’re focused on ensuring every identity is respected and every voice is heard. Because when people feel safe, supported and valued, they thrive - and so do the communities we serve. Today, we’re recognising our six priority community groups who dedicate time beyond their regular roles to remove barriers and make inclusion real. Their leadership helps build a workplace where everyone feels they belong. 🔗 Learn more about our approach to inclusion: https://lnkd.in/gt9JRvHm #InclusionMatters #DEI #AnglicareVictoria #Belonging #EquityInAction

Anglicare Victoria, along with Safe Steps Family Violence Response Centre, welcomes the proposed reforms to Victoria’s family violence laws. These changes aim to keep women, children, and families safe for as long as they need, representing a critical step toward a safer Victoria for all.
Safe Steps welcomes the proposed reforms to Victoria's family violence laws. Family and intimate partner violence is any behaviour that causes harm, exerts control, and/or creates fear. Abuse can be emotional, psychological, financial and more. These patterns of behaviour are intentional and serve to dominate, isolate, and undermine victim survivor's autonomy and sense of self. It can happen to anyone, and it's never acceptable. Under the current legislation, children listed on a protective parent's Family Violence Intervention Order are no longer protected when they turned 18 - that will change under these reforms. Safe Steps has advocated strongly for young people experiencing family violence to be treated as victim-survivors in their own right. We support this change and also the proposed amendments to better protect young victim-survivors. Under the Bill introduced into the Victorian Parliament today, the definition of family violence will recognise more forms of abuse, such as stalking and the mistreatment of pets. If a person using violence receives a jail sentence, Family Violence Intervention Orders will now be extended to cover 12 months beyond release. This important change prioritises victim-survivor safety, by recognising the escalation and subsequent heightened risk posed when perpetrators are released from custody. These proposed reforms are also designed to make it easier to serve intervention orders to perpetrators in prison. Safe Steps acknowledges the work and bravery of victim-survivors in sharing their experiences to inform these proposed reforms. Earlier this month, Anglicare Victoria (AV) joined more than 500 advocates, practitioners and leaders at the National Community Legal Centres Conference, hosted by Community Legal Centres Australia at Australian National University on Ngunnawal Country. The theme, “The Law and More”, celebrated the sector’s commitment to integrated legal, social, financial and educational services to improve service delivery and better support clients. AV was proudly represented by Simon Suttie, Sandra Roennfeldt, Belquis Obura and Michelle Taranto, who attended over 20 sessions across four days, connecting with peers, sharing insights, and exploring new approaches to community legal work. A standout moment was a panel featuring Sandra and Belquis, who co-presented with colleagues from Women’s Legal Service Victoria, the Federation of Community Legal Centres, and the Victorian Law Foundation. Their session spotlighted the Emerging Lawyers Program, a partnership initiative improving access to legal support for victim-survivors of family violence in Gippsland. “Working in a Community Legal Centre has been particularly meaningful,” said Belquis. “It has given me the opportunity to assist individuals who are often disadvantaged or facing significant barriers to justice, which aligns closely with my values.” AV’s participation shines a spotlight on our leadership in community legal services and our commitment to collaboration, advocacy and sector-wide impact. Families raising young children in Bendigo bring valuable perspectives to daily life as they’re navigating housing insecurity, limited access to services, and financial stress. Their experiences matter, and it’s essential that families feel safe, supported, and truly heard. The C4C-Noah’s Ark Voice of the Family project captured these lived experiences through in-depth, family-centred interviews. What stood out most? Families want genuine opportunities to shape the decisions that affect them. Thanks to Communities for Children (C4C), local programs like playgroups and Mother Goose are helping families build connection, confidence, and community. How can we all help? ✔️ Listen to families ✔️ Support inclusive, accessible services ✔️ Advocate for safe, affordable housing and wraparound support Together, we can create a stronger, more inclusive Bendigo for every family. Today is International Pronouns Day! 🌈 Observed annually on the third Wednesday of October since 2018, this day raises awareness about the importance of respecting and using personal pronouns - a simple yet powerful way to foster inclusion and affirm dignity for LGBTQIA+ individuals, especially those who are trans, gender diverse, or non-binary. Sharing pronouns is becoming more common in workplaces and communities, and it plays a key role in creating respectful, inclusive environments. We invite you to join the conversation. Swipe left and find out which pronoun suits you best and share with us your pronouns in the comments. 💜 Together, we can continue building a culture of understanding and belonging. #InternationalPronounsDay #Inclusion #Respect #Pronouns #PronounsDay #Gender #GenderIdentity
