Refugee trauma recovery cannot happen in isolation from the world around us. Global events like conflict, climate crises, and policy shifts directly shape the experiences and wellbeing of displaced people. The 2026 Refugee Trauma Recovery in Resettlement Conference will bring together practitioners, researchers, and community leaders from across the world, offering a unique opportunity to explore how these global perspectives can be applied to local practice, strengthening trauma-informed, culturally responsive care in communities across the region. Join us next May to connect with experts, exchange ideas, and take practical knowledge back to your work supporting displaced people: https://lnkd.in/gwahYarc STARTTS | NSW Service for the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture and Trauma Survivors QPASTT Foundation House Victoria (VFST Inc.) We’re delighted to be featured in the summer edition of Women's Network Australia magazine, highlighting our upcoming conference panel Intersecting Traumas: DFV after Displacement. This is a timely and deeply significant conversation about the complex ways family and gender-based violence intersects with experiences of displacement. The article brings features some of our panel’s highly experienced voices: Juliana Nkrumah AM, whose decades-long leadership in gender equality and refugee women’s empowerment has inspired change nationally and globally; Maria Dimopoulos AM, CEO of the Settlement Council of Australia and a tireless advocate for women’s rights and cross-cultural understanding; and Nimo Ahmed, co-founder of The Sisterhood, who has established safe spaces and leadership opportunities for refugee women in Indonesia. We’re also very pleased to round out our panel with Vahid Momtaz, a practitioner supporting refugees in New Zealand, whose work focuses on violence prevention and mental health interventions for displaced families. Thank you to Women’s Network Australia for shining a light on this important work. You can read the feature now on WNA's website, and register to be part of this vital discussion here: https://lnkd.in/girxuAyN STARTTS | NSW Service for the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture and Trauma Survivors QPASTT Foundation House Victoria (VFST Inc.) Australia must not remain silent. This week at the UN General Assembly in New York, the US Government is attempting to gain support to significantly weaken protections enshrined in the Refugee Convention, which Australia not only ratified in 1954 but helped draft in 1951. We are urging the Australian Government to publicly reject any move to erode this vital system of protection.
