We have over 200 children in the Luma community living in difficult and vulnerable situations. Many of them have also experienced family violence at a young age. It’s been a tough year for our family and domestic violence team and we are helping more families than ever to feel safe, seen and supported. Ending violence starts with believing in change and like many speakers called out this week, we all need to play a part in making it happen. This year, the 16 Days in WA campaign is encouraging everybody to take part to stop violence against women. It’s motivating to see so many in our community doing their part. If you are wondering what you can do, please consider donating to our Christmas appeal. We need your help and this is a small way to bring joy into a big problem. Your $50 donation buys real gifts for real children here in Perth. When you contribute, you're not just buying a gift - you're telling a vulnerable child and their mother that they matter. That they're not forgotten. That their community supports them. 🔗 Donate here: [https://lnkd.in/gAccD349]

This silent march said more than words ever could. 🧡 Around 840 million women have experienced partner or sexual violence in their lifetime, according to a new report from the World Health Organisation. It’s a figure that has sadly only shown a tiny annual decline of 0.2 per cent over the past two decades. Change is needed. Action is overdue. Every girl and woman and child deserves to live without fear and without violence. Thank you to everyone who stood with survivors yesterday and demanded change at Perth’s 35th March Against Domestic and Family Violence. #16DaysinWA #16DaysofActivism

This Christmas, Luma is supporting 200 families in our community who are rebuilding their lives after domestic violence, homelessness, mental health crises, and trauma. These Perth families are incredibly resilient and are already making hard decisions just to get by. With 1 in 7 Australians living below the poverty line, Christmas becomes yet another choice – food or gifts? Last year, one mother - Tamara* - was facing Christmas with $8 in her bank account and two children expecting Santa. When Luma handed over presents, she was reminded that she wasn’t alone and there were people who care. Our 2025 Goal: $15,000 to provide gifts to children and families at risk of missing out. Every donation goes directly to our clients - women and children we already walk alongside through tough times. Your generosity brings more than a present under the tree. It brings hope, dignity, and a sense of belonging during what can be an incredibly isolating season. "Shouting 'self-care' at people who actually need community care is how we fail people," – Community organiser and researcher, Nakita Valerio. Community connection is an essential part of health and wellbeing – it lowers your blood pressure, boosts your immune system, lowers the risk of chronic diseases and reduces stress, depression and anxiety. Here’s a little shout-out to the magic of community and the amazing events that have brought us together recently. 💛 💫 Breast Cancer Awareness stall in the city 💫 Luma stall at the Telethon Weekend 💫 Midland’s annual NAIDOC event 💫 Sea Gals x Luma collaboration 💫 The Stress Cascade talk with Health Promotions

✨ Celebrating Saumya! ✨ Saumya has been a student (and absolute star) in our Health Promotions team, contributing 450 hours and showing up to just about every event imaginable to share women's health information across Perth. This week is her last with us, and she wrapped it up by delivering a presentation - researched and created entirely by her - on menstrual cycles to high school girls! The session sparked a room full of questions and conversations. We'll have to replace your role, Saumya, but we won't be able to replace YOU. Thank you for your incredible contribution to Luma. ❤️

Welcome Amy! Our new Advanced Practice Nurse, who comes from managing health programs in conflict zones, refugee camps, and hospitals around the world. 💫🌍 Amy-Louise Curtis has dedicated her career to providing health services where it’s needed most, having worked with the incredible NGO that locates health workers into conflict zones Médecins Sans Frontières Australia & Médecins Sans Frontières New Zealand and the humanitarian group who protects people affected by conflict and violence, International Committee of the Red Cross - ICRC. She has over 18 years of nursing experience, holds a Master’s in Public Health and Tropical Medicine, and has extensive experience in women’s health — such as providing access to contraception, cervical screening, reproductive health, and care for survivors of gender-based violence. It’s people like Amy who inspire us to keep improving the lives of more women through health access. We can’t wait to see the impact she’ll make at Luma. 💙 For bookings with Amy, visit: https://lnkd.in/gxcRy_NG

At Luma, we believe health and wellbeing includes cultural respect and connection. The Walk for Reconciliation at Galup (Lake Monger) yesterday was a powerful moment of place-based truth-telling. Standing among thousands to learn about reconciliation and the history of Galup from Elders before walking the path together was emotional. Thank you Reconciliation WA, Same Drum, and the Carriers of the Galup massacre story. We're committed to walking with community today and always towards a stronger future for all. 🖤❤️💛 #Galup #LakeMonger #Truthtelling #Healing #NRW2025
