Congratulations to the teams behind the Maribyrnong Insurance Project for taking home two awards at today’s 2025 Resilient Australia National Awards Ceremony. Not only did the project win the Local Government Award, but it also received the National Collaboration and Partnership Award, celebrating the outstanding teamwork between Maribyrnong City Council, GenWest, and the Maribyrnong Community Recovery Committee. Co-designed with the community, the project was born from a vision of a local resident who wanted to share their experience navigating the complex insurance process during the October 2022 floods. The project aimed to simplify complex insurance information and ensure residents had support when they needed it most. A huge congratulations to everyone involved in this community-led initiative - your collaboration and dedication are making a real difference!

We have developed a draft Special Rate and Charge Policy to help guide Council if we were ever to consider introducing a special rate or charge. This is not about introducing a new rate or charge – we’re simply seeking comments on the draft Policy to make sure it’s fair, transparent and easy to understand. Learn more about what special rates and charges can be used for, review draft Policy and share your comments online at https://lnkd.in/gwetHPbb Feedback closes midnight Sunday 14 December 2025.

Yesterday, City of Maribyrnong Mayor, Cr Pradeep Tiwari and CEO Celia Haddock joined other mayors and CEOs of M9 – an alliance representing the nine inner metropolitan councils and 1 in 5 Victorians. Together they met with Members of Parliament for a constructive discussion on the shared priorities shaping our region’s future. This was an opportunity to discuss how we can work together to deliver real outcomes for our communities ahead of the 2026 State Election. Key themes included: ✅ strengthening community safety ✅ investing in infrastructure for growth ✅ improving transport connectivity across Melbourne’s inner region These are issues that cross municipal boundaries and political lines, and demand collaborative leadership to ensure Melbourne remains a liveable, thriving city. A sincere thank you to all MPs who joined us today for your engagement and commitment to the communities we collectively serve.
