Community Legal Education delivery in beautiful Wurrumiyanga ✨ Earlier this month Mollie and Ali delivered Community Legal Education (CLE) in Wurrumiyanga (go Bombers!), where they were warmly welcomed at the CatholicCare NT Men’s Group meeting, Julanimawu Primary Health Care Centre, and by the staff and artists at Ngaruwanajirri 🫶🏾 Community Legal Education (CLE) is all about empowering people to understand their legal rights, and the legal systems that affect us. Understanding these systems helps people feel more confident to speak up for themselves, and ensures that community members and service providers know when and how to seek legal support. If you or your organisation are interested in hearing more about CLE delivery from NAAFLS, we’d love to hear from you! 📥👉🏿 Get in touch at cle@naafls.com.au!

We’re excited to share the latest episode of Daa’ring Yarning, the new podcast from First Nations Advocates Against Family Violence (formerly the NFVPLS Forum) (FNAAFV) featuring our very own Cultural and Engagement Lead, Rachael Hill! 🙌🏿 From starting as a NAAFLS receptionist at 19 to becoming a young leader ensuring Aboriginal voices lead the way and service delivery remains culturally safe - Rachael’s career journey has always been underpinned by her passion for working with mob. In this conversation with FNAAFV CEO Kerry Staines, Rachael talks about the vital role of Aboriginal caseworkers and the relationships they foster, the importance of respecting and drawing upon the vast cultural knowledge that exists within the Aboriginal community-controlled sector, and offers some words of advice for young people with similar career aspirations. NAAFLS welcomes the release of the NT Police Anti-Racism Strategy ➡🔗 https://bit.ly/47rpCyS As a victim-survivor focused and Aboriginal-led Family Violence Prevention Legal Service, many of NAAFLS' clients - particularly in remote communities - rely on timely and culturally safe police responses to support their immediate safety. However, interactions with police in domestic, family and sexual violence matters do not always enhance safety for Aboriginal women, families and communities. This leads to under-reporting and increased vulnerability. We appreciate this step by NT Police to formalise their commitment to confronting systemic racism within the organisation and improving how officers engage with Aboriginal people. NAAFLS will continue to work alongside NT Police to strengthen culturally informed, trauma-aware and community-led responses. The success of this strategy will hinge on the NT Police Force and NT Government being held accountable to their outlined commitments - and we stand ready to contribute our insights and experience in order to help rebuild a system that genuinely supports the safety, dignity and rights of Aboriginal families across the NT.
