Storm season is part of life in Queensland — but the mental load it creates is often underestimated. ⛈️ Uncertainty, heightened alerts and memories of previous severe weather can all take a toll. As we prepare our homes and workplaces, it’s equally important to look after our mental wellbeing and support those around us. A few small actions can make a meaningful difference: 💛Plan early and focus on what you can control 💛Take regular breaks from news updates 💛Use grounding techniques to manage stress 💛Stay connected with colleagues, neighbours and loved ones 💛Reach out for help if you need it. Storm season affects everyone differently. A kind conversation or a simple check-in can go a long way. 🤗 🔗Need support? https://lnkd.in/gNiE7gic #GetReadyQueensland #BePrepared #StormSeason

As Perinatal Mental Health Week comes to an end, it’s a reminder that the support we offer parents shouldn’t stop here. The early days of parenthood can be both beautiful and overwhelming. Here are a few gentle ways to support the parents in your life: 💛 Ask how they’re really going. Not just about the baby, about them. A moment of genuine care goes a long way. 💛 Offer practical help. Drop off a meal, hang the washing, hold the baby while they shower, or run an errand. Small acts, big impact. 💛 Include them. New parents often feel disconnected. A simple invite even if they can’t make it helps them feel remembered. 💛 Listen without fixing. Sometimes parents don’t need solutions, just space to talk openly and without judgement. 💛 Look out for signs they may be struggling. Persistent sadness, anxiety, withdrawal, overwhelm, or feelings of inadequacy can all signal that support is needed. We also want to acknowledge our friends over at Peach Tree Perinatal Wellness. Their advocacy continues to shape how we understand and respond to the needs of parents across the state. If you or someone you know needs support, here are places to start: ✨ PANDA - Perinatal Anxiety & Depression Australia – 1300 726 306 ✨ Beyond Blue – 1300 224 636 ✨ Peach Tree Perinatal Wellness ✨ Dads Group ✨ Lifeline Australia – 13 11 14 ✨ SMS4dads ✨Pregnancy, Birth & Baby Helpline – 1800 882 436 ✨ 13YARN – 13 92 76 (support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples) ✨ Your local Child Health Nurse or GP Let’s keep looking out for the parents around us, not just this week, but every week. #PerinatalMentalHealthWeek #QMHC #CheckIn #MentalHealthSupport #ParentsAndFamilies #CommunityWellbeing #PerinatalMentalHealth

Every baby needs a village, and every parent deserves one too. This Perinatal Mental Health Week, we are proud to highlight programs that support parents, babies, and families across Queensland, because early connection and care make all the difference. 🔹 Murilla Mums & Bubs Connect – Murilla Community Centre Creating supportive spaces for mothers in rural and remote regions, helping reduce isolation and build community during the first two years of parenthood. 🔹 The Bamboo Parenting Program – James Cook University Providing culturally informed, wrap-around mental health support for mothers in northern Queensland through the First 1,000 Days Framework. 🔹 Masterclass for Mums – My Kind of Tribe An 8-week group program supporting women through the transition to motherhood, building resilience and wellbeing during early parenthood. 🔹 State-based Perinatal Family Mental Health Registry – University of Queensland Mater A centralised registry improving understanding of perinatal mental health needs across Queensland, informing better services and policy. 🔹 Mindfulness App – University of Queensland A co-designed mobile tool increasing access to mindfulness and wellbeing support for perinatal women, including culturally and linguistically diverse communities. These initiatives reflect the Commission's commitment to early intervention, local solutions, and strong community support, because when parents are supported, families and communities thrive. 💛 #PerinatalMentalHealthWeek #MentalHealthMatters #EarlyYears #CommunityWellbeing #Queensland

How you speak to yourself matters. Your brain listens. Your body responds. Your day shifts. Here’s a gentle reminder: If you wouldn’t say it to a friend, don’t say it to yourself. Swap “I’m so bad at this” with “I’m still learning.” Swap “I’m not enough” with “I’m doing my best.” Swap “I failed” with “I tried, and I can try again.” Small shifts. Big impact. 💛 Be kind to your mind.
