About us

The VRA Rescue NSW is an emergency response community organisation run by professional volunteers dedicated to helping people during emergencies and natural disasters. NSW VRA has a rich history of serving communities across the state since its formation in 1969, during which time it has earned a reputable name among fellow emergency services. Fast-forward five decades and the NSW VRA comprises of 56 squads and over 1600 professional volunteers who continue to value the same principle of protect, preserve and save human life and properties. Ongoing funding by generous communities and the NSW Government has allowed the VRA to maintain training programs, learn skills and share knowledge on state-of-the-art equipment and meet the high standard required for accreditation for all rescue agencies in NSW. It is this determination which has allowed the NSW VRA to become a primary respondent to emergencies, as well as offering assistance to NSW Rural Fire Service, NSW State Emergency Services, NSW Police, NSW Ambulance, and Fire Rescue NSW.

  • This morning, volunteers from across the state proudly represented VRA Rescue NSW at the 25th Annual NSW Emergency Service Volunteers Memorial Service, honouring those who made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting their communities. Held at Mrs Macquarie’s Point, the service was attended by Minister for Emergency Services Jihad Dib, NSW Rural Fire Service Commissioner Trent Curtin, and NSW SES Deputy Commissioner Deb Platz, who joined emergency service representatives from across the state to pay tribute to the fallen. This year, six new names were added to the memorial, bringing the total number of honoured volunteers to 125. The memorial stands as a powerful reminder of the courage, dedication, and selflessness shown by all who serve. Their legacy continues through every volunteer who wears the uniform and answers the call to help their community. 🕯️💚 Brenton Charlton Jihad Dib Chris Minns NSW Government NSW Nationals
