The Commission is taking regulatory action against residential aged care providers that have persistently failed to meet their mandatory care minutes targets. Mandatory care minutes ensure that older people in residential aged care homes receive the dedicated direct care time, including from a registered nurse, that they need.   Reporting published by the Department of Health and Aged Care (from October 2023 to June 2024) showed that compliance with care minutes was disproportionately low in metropolitan areas, despite generally greater workforce constraints in regional, rural and remote areas. Further, services run by for-profit providers have lower rates of compliance than those services run by not-for-profit providers.   Enforceable Undertakings are now in place with 11 providers operating 27 individual residential aged care homes that have fallen well short of delivering their care minutes targets across successive quarters. The Commission’s initial action has focused on services in metropolitan locations where surrounding services have much smaller – or no – care minutes shortfalls.   “Failure to deliver mandatory care minutes where there is an absence of tangible effort to achieve these targets could lead to sanctions and financial penalties,” said Aged Care Quality and Safety Commissioner, Janet Anderson.   “All residential aged care providers are on notice as the Commission will continue to actively monitor, engage with and take regulatory action against providers that persistently fall well short of their care minutes requirements.”   Read the full media release here: https://lnkd.in/gxN9Kccv   #ACQSC #MediaRelease #AgedCare #RegulatoryAction

Established with $3 million of Commonwealth funding, this will harness the collective wisdom of the aged care ecosystem to invest in and implement evidence-based solutions that accelerate workforce innovation. Flagship projects: two multi-site, scalable projects that bring together a selection of aged care organisations to collectively embed and test evidence-based innovations. 🚧 Breaking Ground on CHEO’s New Integrated Treatment Centre 🌿 CHEO broke ground on its Integrated Treatment Centre back in April of this year. This is a major milestone and will be a first-of-its-kind facility designed to bring together care for children and youth with complex medical, developmental, behavioural, and mental health needs. Located on CHEO’s main campus, this six-storey centre will merge services from eight different sites into one accessible, state-of-the-art space. The new Aged Care Act and Support at Home start date will be briefly deferred to 1 November 2025. We are working closely with the sector to develop the details of the new laws and support providers to: ✔️ help prepare older people for the changes ✔️ finalise key operational and digital processes ✔️ produce implementation guidance and training. The brief deferral will ensure home care recipients continue to receive safe, quality care and have time to understand the new Support at Home program changes. It will also allow Parliament to consider an amendment Bill to deliver the final Aged Care Rules and enable effective operation of the new Act. For more information, see the comments below. 👇

The Older Persons Advocacy Network (OPAN) has welcomed the Interim First Nations Aged Care Commissioner’s report, calling it an important step forward for the sector. ‘OPAN endorses the recommendations, particularly the development of a 10-year transformation plan co-designed in genuine partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people,’ OPAN CEO Craig Gear said. We want to make sure that these supports are the best they can be.    Enter the NDIS’ Evidence Advisory Committee.     🔎 What is the Evidence Advisory Committee?     The Committee will provide independent expert advice to ensure participants have good information about the NDIS supports that will deliver value for money and good outcomes. Sadly, so is the equity to health of people with other disabilities, making this free webinar an important event for your calendar. The Australian Disability Consortium is co-hosting this webinar with the World Health Organization (WHO) to discuss their work in advancing health equity for people with disabilities. "WHO’s Global Report on Health Equity for Persons with Disabilities demonstrates that people with disabilities – an estimated 16% of the global population – still experience health inequities due to unjust or unfair conditions, including attitudinal, institutional, and physical barriers, at all levels of health systems.
