Each module (3 in total) is estimated to take students around 30 mins to complete. Students can activate a voice over to assist them to read/navigate the program. Teacher led class discussions and optional further learning activities also included.
The program was pilot evaluated over 3 separate sessions across a 2–3 week period and it is recommended to be implemented this way. However, we understand the challenges of timetabling, so the program could also be completed in a double period.
Yes please, however for students who may not complete a module within their allocated timeframe they can complete the module at home, assuming they have access to a device and internet.
No, the program is a universal prevention program that focuses on modifiable risk and protective factors associated with body dissatisfaction and disordered eating behaviours.
The content has been carefully designed, reviewed and refined to ensure it is appropriate for a school-setting and adopts a do-no-harm approach.
No. A downloadable Program Support Guide, pre-recorded webinar and preview of all modules are available via the staff portal. We’ll provide a link to these resources following payment.
All members of staff will have access to the preview modules and support material, but if they want to complete the program for themselves, they’ll need to enroll with their students as a paid user.
BodyKind Online Education considers online environments which includes social media with a focus on promoting safe and positive use. While new age restrictions may delay access to certain platforms, social media remains a part of young people’s lives. The program helps schools to equip students with social media literacy skills to navigate social media in ways that support body image at whatever age they activate accounts. Students don’t need to be social media users to use the program.
Butterfly is an experienced and reputable provider of body image education and we take a strength-based and sensitive approach to the challenging topics with help-seeking opportunities and micro-interventions embedded throughout the program. We encourage parents, caregivers, school staff, and health professionals to make an informed decision based on what is in the best interest of the student and their recovery.

Butterfly Foundation takes privacy and data security seriously.
Information Collected
To activate student logins, Butterfly collects each student’s first and last name and school email address. In the Learning Management System (LMS), these details are linked to participation records to track course completion and student responses to free text questions. These free text responses are monitored by the BodyKind Online Education Team and any responses indicating serious concern for a student’s safety or wellbeing are shared with the school.
Data Storage and Security
Schools provide student names and school email addresses via a CSV file uploaded during registration. This file is stored in Microsoft Dynamics 365 and SharePoint Online, with access restricted to authorised Prevention team members who hold Working with Children and Police checks. Data is copied to an LMS import file via a secure VPN-only folder, imported into the LMS, and then deleted from Dynamics 365 and SharePoint at the end of the Term the school has registered for.
Protection Measures
To protect against data breaches, Butterfly employs several measures:
Data Sharing
Student information is never shared with third parties.
Incident Response
Any suspected data breach or security incident is immediately reported and investigated by authorised staff and our Managed Service Provider. Affected stakeholders are notified if required under Australian privacy law, including the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme. Steps are taken to secure accounts, address the root cause, and document the incident for compliance and internal records.
