Body image resources for families

Having a positive body image helps children and young people to feel good about themselves and supports mental health and wellbeing, but the world we live in today can sometimes make that hard.

While it might not always feel like it, particularly during adolescence parents can have a really positive influence on the way a child thinks, feels and behaves when it comes to their body and appearance.

Our resources for parents and families aim to help answer the following questions:

  • Why is developing a healthy body image important?
  • What influences my child’s body-esteem?
  • How should I respond if my child talks negatively about themselves or others?
  • What should I do if my child is showing signs of unhealthy eating and exercise behaviour?
  • How can I be a good role model?
  • Where can I access further information and support?

When student and parent sessions are delivered in combination they can also create an opportunity for a more open dialogue within families, which can also help to reinforce the young people’s learning. The following sessions are available for schools to book for the parents, carers and families within your school community.
