Life After Suicide Loss (LASL) is a peer-to-peer event that offers those bereaved due to suicide to join with others in a safe and supportive space to share, learn and further understand how to integrate the suicide loss experience into their lives. The event this year will be presented virtually on December 4th 2025 to provide support during the holidays, as it can be a challenging time for those grieving. This is an opportunity for participants to join in community and engage with others with similar shared life experiences, feel less isolation, express their thoughts and feelings without fear of being judged, be less encumbered by stigma, and better understand the grief experience and process. CMHA leaders from across the country had the opportunity to meet with Canada’s Fentanyl Czar, Kevin Brosseau. We met on the margins of the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction Issues of Substance Conference taking place in Halifax, Nova Scotia. We discussed the impact the opioid crisis is having in community. CMHAs in Alberta are delivering a range of mental health services including Recovery College courses and wrap-around housing supports that help keep people safe and well. Cross-sectoral and inter-governmental investment and coordination is needed to address the complexity of this challenge.
