PAINCHANGERS LET YOUR TRUE COLOURS SHINE THROUGH
National Pain Week 2024
National Pain Week 2024 is Australia’s annual awareness event for chronic pain.
Each year, Chronic Pain Australia draws attention to the experience of people living with chronic pain and, by doing so, helps reduce the social and other barriers related to living and managing chronic pain.
Being heard can be a painchanger, a new treatment can be painchanger, or a person who supports someone living with pain can be a painchanger. This National Pain Week, join us to talk about what your painchangers are.

11am – 12pm AEST
In the wake of the ABC Four Corners investigation “Pain Factory,” many individuals living with chronic pain are left with more questions than answers regarding the appropriate steps to take before considering surgical interventions. This panel discussion aims to provide clear, trustworthy guidance on managing chronic pain and exploring surgical and non-surgical options.
Join us as leading physiotherapists, pain specialists, orthopaedic surgeons, and pain advocates as they address key questions: What should be done before opting for surgery? What management is recommended for chronic pain? What questions should your health practitioner be asked when they suggest surgical interventions for chronic pain management? Hosted by Chronic Pain Australia, in collaboration with the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA), this session is designed to empower individuals with chronic pain to make well-informed decisions about their treatment options.

Pain Colours Your World
Pain is a vicious cycle that can trap people in a spiral of stigma, isolation, and mental health challenges, colouring everything about your life.
We hear from our community that living with chronic pain is a vicious cycle, it messes with your daily life, emotions, and even how you see yourself.
In the 2023 National Pain Survey, Respondents said:

This cycle of pain casts a tint on how people living with chronic pain view and experience the world; pain colours your world.

ORANGE
Physical pain is limiting and can lead to isolation and mental health issues.

GREEN
Chronic pain is an invisible burden that often results in feelings of isolation as healthcare professionals, family members and decision-makers don’t understand the extent of pain being experienced.

PURPLE
People living with chronic pain are often dismissed when seeking care because of the stigma about chronic pain in the community.

BLUE
The vicious cycle of pain significantly impacts the mental health of people living with chronic pain. Healthcare professionals and the community struggle to empathise with the experience of people living with chronic pain.
