Talking Dateline: The Trouble in Bardstown

Lester Holt sits down with Andrea Canning to discuss her latest episode, “The Trouble in Bardstown.” When mother-of-five Crystal Rogers disappeared from Bardstown, Kentucky in 2015, it wasn’t the first tragedy to strike the small town — and it wouldn’t be the last. Her father, Tommy Ballard, was killed the following year. This summer, Crystal’s former boyfriend, Brooks Houck, and two other men were convicted in connection to her death. But Tommy’s and three additional murders remain unsolved, and the Bardstown community wants answers. Andrea tells Lester about the crimes that stunned and divided residents and gives updates on where the investigations stand now. Then, she shares a podcast-exclusive clip from her interview with Crystal’s mother, Sherry Ballard. I only listen to the full episodes. So when I am looking for one I haven’t heard I need to scroll through a ton of the other types of shows like “Talking” and “Updates” etc. so I end up scrolling and scrolling trying to find them. It would be awesome if you have filters so only the full episodes would show up. 👍👍

I let my subscription lapse because there is not enough compelling content anymore. The "True Crime Weekly" segment is not what I subscribed for, but it seems they're using it as filler content. Also, just this morning, I was listening to "Talking Dateline: Running Man" and Andrea Canning got herself tongue-tied trying to defend adultery for the female victim. I've never heard a correspondent do that for a male adulterer. Add it to the list of garbage. I now listen to 48 Hours.

Good show but when Andrea Canning reports I feel like I’m listening to AI. She sounds like a robot, always ending her statements on the same note, monotone deliver with forced invention to sound natural. Awful. Another voice that can be heard to listen to is Keith Morrison. At times he sounds condescending and mocking in his tone. It conflicts with the subject matter. It doesn’t always have to be “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.”
