As innovation accelerates, partnerships between IP offices play a vital role in helping businesses compete globally. In our recent visit to the Japan Patent Office (JPO), we renewed our cooperation agreements first signed a decade ago, marking a significant milestone in strengthening collaboration on IP, data exchange, and innovation support between Singapore and Japan. Together with JPO, we advanced new conversations on AI, frontier technologies, and patent examination practices, and were guest speakers in a JETRO-JPO seminar on how IP can fuel business growth. With the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), we shared how Singapore is a destination for Japanese companies to scale their presence in Singapore and ASEAN. With the support of JETRO Singapore - Accelerate Innovation with Japan -, we also met with the Japan Intellectual Property Association (JIPA), the Japan Patent Attorneys Association (JPAA) as well as Japanese companies Ebara Corporation, Kokusai Electric and Takeda Pharmaceutical to learn about their IP strategies in Singapore and beyond. For innovators looking to expand into Asia and ASEAN, these efforts strengthen the patent infrastructure that enables them to secure protection, accelerate market entry, and scale through Singapore. #intellectualproperty #patents #ASEAN

China is one of the world’s most dynamic innovation markets, making strong IP collaboration essential for businesses looking to grow across the region. At the Singapore-Guangdong Collaboration Council meeting, co-chaired by Minister Ong Ye Kung, we strengthened this collaboration by inking an MoU between IPOS International and the Guangzhou Municipal Administration for Market Regulation. Our three-year partnership will enhance bilateral cooperation, improve access to IP services, and connect Singapore and Guangzhou enterprises to each other’s innovation ecosystems, including through platforms like IP Week. Earlier this month, we also joined the Zhijiang Business Forum, where Managing Director, IPOS International, Kitt-Wai Kok joined global and national IP leaders to examine how AI is reshaping innovation and IP. Our first visit to the Zhejiang IP Office, and other meetings with enterprises and Zhejiang University also opened conversations on future collaboration to better enterprise growth into China’s most digital-driven economy. Through these engagements, we’re building practical IP partnerships that enable clearer and faster pathways for businesses to enter and thrive in China’s innovation landscape. #intellectualproperty #innovation

We’re pleased to renew our Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Instituto Mexicano de la Propiedad Industrial (IMPI) of the United Mexican States, strengthening IP cooperation between Singapore and Mexico. 🤝 With this renewal, Mexican applicants can designate us as their International Searching Authority (ISA) and International Preliminary Examining Authority (IPEA) under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT).
