A new article references an #EdWorkingPaper by Annenberg faculty Lindsay Page, Senior Research Associate Catherine Mata, and their coauthors, which explores the impact of a non-generative AI chatbot in large undergraduate courses. Their preliminary findings suggest that students who received chatbot messages were four percentage points more likely to earn an A or B—evidence of increased engagement and improved academic performance.

🌍How does climate change impact our youngest learners? In our upcoming #SustainableED Virtual Seminar, Dr. Jorge Cuartas will present a conceptual framework for understanding how climate change can influence young children’s development. He will discuss findings from a comprehensive review that synthesizes emerging evidence linking climate change and child development, as well as recent studies providing causal evidence that unusually high temperatures can impair young children’s cognitive and socioemotional skills, which are foundational for later learning. Dr. Cuartas will highlight key directions for future research and discuss implications for educational and developmental policies and practices aimed at protecting young children and fostering healthy development. 🗓️: 12/1 | 🕐 1:00-1:45 EST Register here: https://buff.ly/BD7cCv5

Massachusetts did something bold. In 2021, it launched SUCCESS, a homegrown, state-funded initiative, to provide comprehensive supports at all 15 public community colleges. A new report from Aizat Nurshatayeva, Lindsay Page, and Ellen Bryer offers a deep look at the early implementation of this effort, grounded in: • Rich historical context about MA’s higher ed landscape • Qualitative interviews with state and campus leaders • Lessons on scaling, staffing, and adapting support for diverse student populations This report isn’t just about one state. It offers broader insights for policymakers and practitioners aiming to: ✔️ Boost student success in community colleges ✔️ Build statewide systems that adapt to local needs ✔️ Sustain student support reforms over time We’re grateful to our partners across Massachusetts, especially the team at the Massachusetts Association of Community Colleges and the 15 community colleges who shared their stories. 📄 Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/exhxYXHd

The New Jersey Tutoring Corps Inc demonstrates how research can guide the design of large-scale tutoring programs. This case study explores how the program balanced evidence-based principles (from our #EdResearch4Action brief Design Principles for Accelerating Student Learning With High-Impact Tutoring) with real-world constraints, co-designed solutions with districts, and made thoughtful trade-offs in implementation. Education leaders in districts, states, and nonprofits can use NJTC as a concrete example of how to build tutoring programs that are both research-aligned and responsive to local needs.
