💙 Full circle care comes home. Dr. Ryan Huttinger completed his residency at Cape Fear Valley Health in 2023 before going on to a fellowship in cardiac and thoracic surgery at East Carolina University. Now, he’s back in Fayetteville with his wife, Heather, and their four children — returning to the community he knows and values. “I wanted to go where I could do the most good and make the greatest impact on patients and in the community,” Dr. Huttinger said. “This was an opportunity that matched both.” He also shared that coming back meant rejoining a trusted mentor and a strong team. “I knew I would always be supported by Dr. Maughan and by the hospital. We are in a dynamic surgical field, and it’s a great thing when you can work with an adaptable team that is always looking to progress.” With some of their minimally invasive procedures, Dr. Huttinger said Cape Fear Valley Health offers many advanced procedures that are typically limited to larger centers and hospitals, including TAVR, minimally invasive lung surgery, and advanced robotic capabilities. “We are rapidly expanding our surgical capabilities through implementation of new technology and procedures to improve patient care,” Dr. Huttinger said.

Are you taking advantage of Black Friday deals? Thinking of a fitness watch this year? If you're a senior or not tech savvy, the choices can be overwhelming. Some of the best fitness watches for seniors include the Apple Watch SE for overall ease of use, the LifeFone Safe Watch Active for fall detection, and the Fitbit Sense 2 for advanced heart rate monitoring. Other great options are the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 and the Medical Guardian MGMove, which also offer features like caregiver monitoring and fall detection. When choosing, prioritize user-friendly designs, clear displays, and important safety features like fall detection or emergency services.

Congratulations to Daisy Award Honoree Ashley Tart, a Registered Nurse at Cape Fear Valley Cancer Center - Lillington!🏥🌟 The Daisy Foundation has been honoring nurses around the world who provide above-and-beyond compassionate care to patients and families. Ashley was nominated by a peer. She said, “Ashley is the greatest of all time in all things patient care ... Not a patient birthday passes without a card and a treat from "Aunt Ash" as we all affectionately know her. Ashley truly makes each patient's experience here in the Cancer Center exactly what she would want for her own family. I have never met a more selfless healthcare professional, and I am so honored to be on the same team as her! She makes me want to be, and do, better every single day!”☺️ #healing #nurses #nursing #care #wellness #RN #daisyaward

Meet Kendall Jackson, Patient Representative at Cape Fear Valley Podiatry Foot & Ankle Specialists – Fayetteville! Kendall’s favorite part of her job is the connections she’s made with fellow co-workers and patients. “I have seen some patient’s multiple times a week for years,” she says. “Some I see only once but I take pride in making sure every single patient I interact with feels heard and at-ease. And as much as I may brighten a patient’s day, little do they know they do the same for me!” Kendall genuinely loved helping people and playing a part in their healing process. Being a patient representative for Cape Fear Valley has allowed her the opportunity to care for people within our community as well as the inspiration to further her career in the medical field. “My ability to sympathize with patients allows me to build a connection and establish trust,” she says. ”Sometimes people need someone who will just listen, and I’m blessed to be in a position where I can be that person for patients.” Thank you for all you do for your patients and co-workers, Kendall. It is appreciated and we are THANKFUL to have you as a member of the team!
