Today, the Newton HR team joins communities nationwide in pausing to honor and thank all who have served in the United States Armed Forces. We are grateful for the veterans among our staff, our residents, and all those whose courage, integrity, and sacrifice ensure the freedoms we cherish every day. As a municipal government, we not only reflect on the legacies of service members but also recognize the invaluable contributions veterans bring to our city - at work, at home, and in our neighborhoods. Your leadership and resilience inspire us and remind us that public service takes many forms, all of which strengthen our community. On this Veterans Day, we extend a heartfelt thank you to veterans and their families. Your service sets the standard for commitment and reminds us of our responsibility to honor that service through integrity, support, and gratitude - all year long. To our colleagues, friends, neighbors, and families who have worn the uniform: We salute you. Thank you for your dedication and sacrifice. #VeteransDay #TeamNewtonMA #Gratitude #PublicService #ThankYouVeterans

On behalf of the City of Newton’s Human Resources Department, we join the entire Newton community in mourning the passing of former Mayor Setti Warren. Mayor Warren’s sudden loss is deeply felt throughout our organization and beyond. A lifelong Newtowner and dedicated public servant, Mayor Warren led our city from 2010 to 2018 with vision, empathy, and an unwavering belief that government can be a powerful force for good. During his eight years as Mayor, he strengthened our public institutions and his leadership emphasized collaboration, inclusion, and fiscal responsibility – principles that continue to guide our work today. Mayor Warren’s approach to leadership reflected his broader life of service – to his country as a U.S. Navy reservist and Iraq veteran, to the nation through his federal appointments, and to public life as an educator and mentor at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. As the first African American popularly elected mayor in Massachusetts, he also paved the way for greater representation and inspired future leaders across every sector. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife, Tassy, their children, Abigail and John, and to his extended family and friends. His legacy lives on in the values he built into our city’s foundation – integrity, equity, and service to others. #leadership #publicservice #legacy #TeamNewtonMA
