Happy Thanksgiving from all of us here at Elder Research! 🦃 𝗧𝘂𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘆: 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 Source data is the central element in every data science project just like the centerpiece of the Thanksgiving meal. It starts out raw, and a lot of cleaning and prep needs to happen before it’s usable. 🥬 𝗕𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝗦𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘁𝘀: 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 It doesn’t seem like many people’s favorite, and many are repulsed by the idea—even though they know it’s good and necessary. 🥔 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗣𝗼𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗲𝘀: 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 Some would argue that the best mashed potatoes are smooth and free of lumps. And that’s what data cleansing is all about—smoothing out inconsistencies and removing lumps (or errors) from the data. 🫖 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝘃𝘆: 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 A little gravy goes a long way in bringing a dish together (especially one that’s a little hard to digest). Data visualization is the secret sauce that brings clarity and meaning to complex datasets. 🫛 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲: 𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗹𝗴𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗺𝘀 A mix of ingredients come together to create this Thanksgiving staple. Similarly, machine learning algorithms combine various elements to produce valuable insights from data. 🍒 𝗖𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝗮𝘂𝗰𝗲: 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗿𝘀 Cranberry sauce stands out from the rest, just like outliers in a dataset. It adds a distinct flavor, similar to how outliers can provide valuable insights or challenges in analysis. 🥧 𝗣𝘂𝗺𝗽𝗸𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗶𝗲: 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 Pumpkin pie is the sweet reward at the end of the meal—much like the insights gained from data analysis. How do you celebrate 30 amazing years? With a party of course! 🎉 Our whole crew recently gathered at Great Wolf Lodge in Williamsburg, VA, to celebrate our three decades as an organization. Here are some of the highlights: 🥂 We honored our founder, John Elder, during a special dinner and presented him with a gift featuring the words our team sees as part of our culture. ⚖️ We highlighted team members across business units who reflect our values every day. 🔭 We reflected on how our organization came to be, our vision and values, and accomplishments we’re proud of. 👋 Our business units had a chance to dive into fun team-building activities—from discovering team strengths to problem-solving escape rooms. 🛶 We wrapped up the event with several opportunities to explore the local area, including Jamestown, a high ropes course, and a local winery. All in all, it was a great reminder that our people are the ones who make Elder Research … Elder Research. Their thoughtfulness, tenacity, and vision will carry us into the future.
