Episcopal Community Services (ECS) has provided essential services to homeless San Franciscans since 1982.
About us
Episcopal Community Services of San Francisco (ECS) helps homeless and very low-income people every day and every night obtain the housing, jobs, shelter, and essential services that each person needs to prevent and end homelessness. The complex nature of homelessness calls for a multifaceted solution. Our agency was founded in 1983 to help the growing number of people living on the streets of San Francisco. Today, we serve more than 14,200 men, women, and children through a continuum of services, including emergency shelters, supportive housing, employment and education programs, information and referral, and senior services. ECS is a 501)c)(3) organization, and all donation are tax deductible.

Happy Thanksgiving from ECS! 1066 Mission had our Thanksgiving Meal last Friday, with 60 residents participating during our holiday meal & gift raffle. We also had the pleasure of having the PHACS Team assist services with serving the meals to the residents. CHEFS catered the turkey and stuffing, which was a huge hit! A heartfelt thank you to CHEFS for the amazing food, to our dedicated staff, to all the residents who joined us, and to our supporters who make these joyful moments possible for our ECS community! 🦃

Our very own CHEFS Executive Chef, Dennis Johnson, had the honor of celebrating Chef Jacques Pépin’s 90th birthday in Napa alongside notable chefs like Alice Waters and Thomas Keller! Dennis and the CHEFS team baked the birthday cake for Chef Pépin (pictured) 🎂 The JACQUES PEPIN FOUNDATION has been a donor and supporter of ECS for many years. We're so thankful for their continued contributions that help formerly unhoused and low-income individuals gain the tools and training to rebuild their lives.

Thank you to San Francisco Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing for highlighting this powerful father-son success story. We’re grateful to have played a part in their journey — providing the resources and stability to rebuild together.
This #NHAM, we’re highlighting real stories of resilience in San Francisco’s homelessness response system. Francisco and his son Marvin were reunited after 25 years apart, and with support from Episcopal Community Services’, The Sanctuary and dedicated case managers, they found safety, stability, and a permanent ADA-accessible home. Today, Marvin is receiving the care he needs, and Francisco is preparing to enroll him in a school program for adults with developmental disabilities, a dream that once felt out of reach. Their journey shows what’s possible when housing, compassion, and community support come together. Across the Bay, over 25,000 people sleep outdoors or in vehicles on any given night, and thousands more will become homeless this year. With economic uncertainty and a weakening social safety net, vulnerable communities face tremendous pressure, and demand for ECS services is increasing rapidly. Our services change lives like Crystal’s. Crystal lives in one of ECS’ five family housing sites, is clean and sober, and received multiple job offers, launching a career dedicated to helping women who once faced the same struggles she did. She shares a safe, loving home with her almost two-year-old daughter and her partner, in a residence where they have access to services including case management, food distribution, family activities, and so much more. Crystal’s story reflects the power of individual determination when paired with strong support, demonstrating the transformative change possible when someone is ready to rebuild and has access to the right resources. Amid a soaring homelessness crisis, your partnership is crucial. Please visit our website to make a difference in the lives of folks like Crystal! https://ecs-sf.org/donate/
