Homelessness remains a persistent challenge in our county, and as colder weather approaches the need for safe shelter and support becomes even more urgent. Our Hypothermia Prevention Program runs from Dec. 1 to March 31 and ensures no one experiencing homelessness sleeps outside during the winter. The program provides warm shelter, food, clothing, connections to supportive services and more for unhoused individuals. Overflow shelter capacity is available if unseasonably cold weather occurs. The Fairfax County Department of Human Resources provided an inspiring workshop to FACETS and the Opportunity Neighborhood Annandale (ONA) Community Council, a diverse group of community ambassadors and leaders who lend their voices and lead efforts for positive change within Annandale. Council members explored the value of professional development and the wide range of career opportunities and pathways offered within Fairfax County Government. Our County has again earned the top score possible on the Human Rights Campaign’s 2025 Municipal Equality Index. The index is a nationwide evaluation of how inclusive local laws, policies and services are for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) people. "Our repeated top score is a reflection of the critical work we continue to achieve for all residents with our One Fairfax policy, and with the strong support of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors" said County Executive Bryan Hill.
