BEE Award for Excellence | Congratulations to Saprina Batts, Patient Care Tech, on the 3 North Surgical unit! Just as the DAISY cannot survive without the BEE, nurses cannot survive without the outstanding teamwork provided by other healthcare professionals. Saprina was nominated by numerous patients, loved ones and staff for her warm smile and caring demeanor: 🐝 “Not only did Saprina take exceptional care of my mom on her first stay after surgery, but she also did when she had to be readmitted a second time. Saprina is always full of grace and treated my mom the way she would want her own family treated. She was a blessing!” 🐝 “She’s very attentive and extremely understanding. She has gone above and beyond with everything she does with a smile!” 🐝 “Saprina is so special. She is very warm and wonderful at lifting spirits when needed.” Saprina, thank you for everything you do each day to support our staff and community!

Proud to offer these services to our community!

ICYMI: Colleton Medical Center now offers a PET/CT program every other Thursday, enhancing cancer care for patients in Colleton County and surrounding communities. PET/CT combines two powerful imaging technologies in a single scan. Positron Emission Tomography (PET) reveals how organs and tissues function on a cellular level, while Computed Tomography (CT) provides detailed images of the body’s internal structure. Together, these scans give oncologists the insights they need to deliver targeted, effective care.

ICYMI…in early July, physicians, nurses and clinicians from Memorial Health’s high-risk obstetrics, neonatal intensive care, and children's hospital teams worked together to perform a rare EXIT procedure. (The last EXIT procedure at Memorial Health was more than 10 years ago.) Yesterday, the family returned to meet the care team. Today, our senior leadership team had the opportunity to "Walk in Your World" - a day spent shadowing staff in departments across our hospital to experience firsthand the dedication and compassion our caregivers bring to every patient, every day. This event allows our leaders to better understand our caregivers’ roles and identify opportunities in which to support them as they care for our patients. Our team visited Trauma ICU, Special Procedures Unit (SPU), 5 Heart & Vascular, Inpatient Therapy, Respiratory Therapy, Mother/Baby, Labor & Delivery, Imaging, and our Children’s Hospital emergency department and OR. We are exceptionally proud of our team and the care they provide, going above and beyond to ensure the best outcomes for our patients.

  • Fast thinking and action helped a colleague in need.

What began as an ordinary lunch break in the physician dining room at HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital quickly turned into a life-or-death moment—and one doctor’s quick actions made all the difference. Dr. Tarun Rai, MD demonstrated extraordinary composure and skill when a fellow physician began choking while eating his meal. Recognizing the emergency, and without hesitation, Dr. Rai immediately performed the Heimlich maneuver. With a few swift and well-executed thrusts, Dr. Rai successfully dislodged the piece of food, allowing his colleague to breathe. The entire event unfolded in a matter of moments, but for those present, it was a powerful reminder of the life-saving impact of training, presence of mind, and compassion in the medical profession. “Dr. Rai’s actions were nothing short of heroic,” said Dr. Reuben Maggard, Medical Staff Chief. “His quick response and calm under pressure quite literally saved a life. We are incredibly proud to have him as a member of our medical staff.” Both physicians returned to their duties later that day, but the incident has left a lasting impression on the team at HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital. The event underscores not only the unpredictable nature of emergencies, but also the importance of preparedness—even outside clinical settings. Dr. Rai’s heroism serves as an inspiring reminder that the oath to heal and protect extends far beyond the walls of an exam room or operating suite. In this case, it extended across the lunch table.

  • Our leaders round with colleagues at all of our hospitals. Most recently, they spent time in our Savannah hospital to "Walk in their World" and see first hand what our nurses and technicians do every day.
