Last week I had the opportunity to represent DBT Works at the International Society for the Study of Personality Disorders conference! We hosted a “make your own crisis kit” where folks could put together their kit for distress tolerance. The items included:
⭐ Stickers ➡️ Because who doesn’t love a good sticker to remind them to ask themselves, “What Would Marsha Do?” (IYKYK) 😉
⭐ Candy (especially sour) ➡️ What a great way to pull your focus away from overwhelming emotions!
⭐ Fidgets ➡️ I never realized the power of fidgets until I learned to use them help self-regulate and refocus when I am feeling in distress.
⭐ Putty ➡️ Frustrated? Woo – putty is a great item to manipulate and transfer some of that energy in a safe way.
⭐ DBT Works bracelet ➡️ I LOVE this bracelet. On the inside it has the STOP skill (my favorite DBT skill)! What’s STOP? 🛑 I’m so glad you asked. It stands for Stop, Take a step back, Observe, Proceed mindfully.
⭐ DBT Works pouch ➡️ Because, duh… you need something cute and functional to carry around your crisis kit items!
❓ What item(s) would you add to your crisis kit? ❓
In true Bria fashion, I was too immersed talking with amazing folks in the mental health field to remember to get a picture of myself with my table. 🤦♀️ However, I will never forget to take excess amounts of pictures of my dogs… Meet Mac and Harley, my two boys who were so happy when I came home with new blankets courtesy of Optimum Performance Institute (thank you, Jessica Roselle)! 💛 🐾
I met many amazing leaders from organizations that are working tirelessly every day to improve the mental health and wellbeing of all folks. I look forward to many more opportunities and collaborations to come.
