Kinney Drugs has 2025-2026 COVID vaccines in stock and is now able to administer vaccinations per FDA guidelines to ALL individuals age 65+ and individuals age 12+ with at least one qualifying health condition. August 27th, the U.S. Federal Drug Administration (FDA) approved 2025-2026 COVID-19 vaccines for all seniors age 65+. For individuals age 12-64, the FDA only approved these vaccines for those living with at least one qualifying health condition that puts them at risk for severe disease. The most common qualifying conditions include asthma, hypertension, heart disease, COPD, smoking (current or past), diabetes (Types I and II), obesity (BMI >30), lack of physical activity, and depression. "We're pleased that we are ready with COVID vaccines in stock to help answer the call in our community," said John Marraffa, R.Ph., President of Kinney Drugs. Thanks to our Breakfast Briefing speakers yesterday at the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) Total Store Expo: Alex M. Avram, from Sam's Club; Alice Ta Lee from Circana; and Katie Niles, Pharm.D., Cheri Taylor and Debbie Eklund from Kinney Drugs for their insights and advice to our CRN members. Our sales executives learned about Sam’s Clubs’ drive for innovation tempered by a demand for claim substantiation for new products. Alex urged companies to invest in the research to support their claims before they bring new products to Sam’s, and he reminded them to build in lead time for pre-vetting of products for quality by third-party auditors. Kinney Drug gave us a peek at their new Wellness Triangle and several condition-specific locations in the store helping consumers navigate hydration, GLP-1 support and women’s health issues. Their initiative to educate pharmacists to help consumers make better supplement choices opens opportunities for a more proactive mindset towards health. And Circana told us #nutritionals are the fastest growing aisle in consumer healthcare at a rate of 9%. With e-commerce growing at more than 17%, winning brands have to offer personalized assortments, clean and natural labeling, and specifically target unique generational needs of each demographic.
