Kode With Klossy creates learning experiences and opportunities for young women and gender expansive youth.

About us

Founded in 2015 when supermodel and entrepreneur Karlie Kloss began learning to code, Kode With Klossy creates learning experiences and opportunities for young women, gender nonconforming, and trans students that increase their confidence and inspire them to pursue their passions in a technology driven world. This summer Kode With Klossy will be hosting free in-person camps across the United States and in London, UK, as well as continuing their successful virtual offering. Virtual programs are open to eligible applicants, no matter where they are located. Each camp is led by two instructors who are trained in our custom curriculum and two instructor assistants, who are alumni of the program who get the opportunity to return in a peer leadership role. During camps, scholars cram a semester’s worth of learning into two short weeks - from front-end to back-end engineering concepts, a series on the culture of technology, and project work with all camps culminating in a demo day where scholars showcase a project they’ve built (a website or mobile app) to their friends and family. Learning how to code through Kode With Klossy gives young women so much more than an employable skill. The experience and environment provide a framework for our scholars to feel confident and succeed in anything they do in the future. • Last night, we continued celebrating 10 years of Kode With Klossy in NYC, and it was nothing short of incredible. Here’s a recap of the unforgettable night: Karlie Kloss shared her reflections on the last 10 years – from her very first coding lesson to Kode With Klossy’s current global community of 12,000 alumni. Kayley Chery, Georgia Russello, and Alexis Williams, KWK alumni, spoke about the immense and powerful impact Kode With Klossy had on their respective journeys. Naomi Gleit, one of our incredible event co-hosts, announced the Naomi Gleit Scholarship – funding programming for 10 members of our community to participate in our new portfolio of programs to prepare and develop talent for the AI-powered workforce. Jenny Just, our second trailblazing event co-host, talked about the ways poker teaches you to make decisions with incomplete information, calculate risk versus reward in real-time, read patterns, allocate capital strategically, and take your seat at the table with confidence. Jenny’s organization, Poker Power, will be partnering with KWK to build a custom program that explores these critical skills alongside AI-assisted coding skills. We ended our event playing poker and learning from Poker Power’s incredible instructors. Thank you to everyone who has supported our programs over the years — including our event host committee: Amy Griffin, Jen Rubio, Kim Posnett, Stephanie Cohen. Thank you to the Kode With Klossy team who work passionately to put on meaningful programming for each and every scholar. And lastly, thank you to our community members who embody KWK magic and mission. We are so proud of everything this community has accomplished over the last 10 years, and are unbelievably excited about what we will do in the next 10.

As summer –  our busiest season –  comes to a close, we’re reflecting on the incredible learning experiences we have created for our community: • 31 2-week coding-intensive Camps in New York City, San Francisco, Seattle, Dallas, St. Louis, London, Chicago, and virtually. • 2 Code-A-Brations, our immersive 2-day AI-focused learning experiences in Chicago and Oakland • 1 Challenge focused on data science and data storytelling These programs were made possible with support from Infosys Foundation USA, Goldman Sachs, and Bloomberg. At Kode With Klossy, programs don’t stop when summer ends – we serve young people year-round. Since the spring, we’ve delivered programming to nearly 2,000 young people, with 26% returning from prior years. This return rate underscores the strength of our commitment to provide our alumni with continuous support for a decade once they join our community. As we look ahead to the remaining months of our 10th anniversary year, we’re filled with gratitude and excitement. Thank you to everyone – our scholars, instructors, alumni, and partners – for being part of this journey. Keep an eye out for exciting announcements about our fall season! #KodeWithKlossy

At Kode With Klossy, we believe closing the gender gap in tech requires more than skilled talent and opportunity. It demands real cultural change—in popular culture and in corporate culture. Leadership plays an enormous role in shaping the policies, processes, and practices that define an organization’s culture. But what happens when data shows the pathway to C-suite leadership is not structured to allow women to thrive from the very first manager promotion? In McKinsey’s latest podcast episode of At the Edge, our founder Karlie Kloss and KWK CEO Osi Imeokparia chat with McKinsey senior partner Lareina Yee, co-author of the Broken Rung. Grounded in over a decade of research, the “broken rung” is the first critical promotion to manager where the gender gap is widest. For every 100 men in tech promoted to their first management position, only 52 women in tech are promoted. For the KWK community, this isn’t just a statistic. It's a structural challenge that can shape their career prospects from the very beginning. The good news is that no matter the industry or role, technical skills learned at KWK are essential to building “experience capital” that makes it a bit easier for early career professionals to navigate the broken rung while waiting for changes in corporate culture to drive systemic solutions. Listen as Lareina, Karlie, and Osi reflect on the broken rung and why computational thinking skills and coding fundamentals are still important in the era of AI. This morning, we had the tremendous honor of ringing the Opening Bell at the New York Stock Exchange on behalf of our Kode With Klossy community. Ten years ago, I walked into my first coding class — the only woman in the room. That experience sparked the idea for KWK: to equip young women and gender-expansive youth with the skills and confidence to build with code. What began as a single summer camp has grown into a global movement. Over 11,000 scholars across 100+ countries have joined us — and many are already interning or working at companies that trade right here on the NYSE. This milestone is more than a celebration of how far we’ve come — it’s a call to action for where we’re going. We’re expanding our programs, deepening our AI and data science curriculum, and continuing to ensure every opportunity is 100% free. The bell we rang today marked the start of another trading day — but it can also ring in a new era of inclusive innovation. The next game-changing founder might be a 17-year-old KWK scholar who just wrote her first line of Python in camp last week. ;) Here’s to the next decade of mentoring generously and backing the next generation of builders, dreamers, and founders.

On June 2, we kicked off KWK's 10th summer season. After focusing on our 2-day AI/ML workshops (Code-a-Brations!) in the spring, summer is when we get to add our 2-week Camps to the program mix. Every Wednesday during the summer, we host a speaker who shares their wisdom with our scholars followed by a lively Q&A session. One of my favorite questions from our community this week was: "If your tech journey was a movie, what would the title be?". So fun, right? In my opinion, "Everything Everywhere All At Once" could be an appropriate answer for any member of the KWK community to give! In addition to being the title of the award-winning A24 film, I think it's an apt encapsulation of the moment we are living in now. This is especially true for the 70% of our 11k community members who are already working full-time or just trying to get their first jobs or internships. There is so much happening that is changing the nature of the tech workplace and the tech workforce. The mix of conditions created by political uncertainty, the economy, and AI is a lot to handle. It's Everything. Everywhere. All. At. Once. A technical degree is not enough in today's market. We all have to be lifelong learners, acquire new mindsets and habits, and practice the skills to adapt to the changing landscape. Yesterday, I got a chance to talk about a range of these issues with Aparna Chennapragada, Amjad Masad, and Emily Chang on stage at the Bloomberg Tech Summit. We had a good time! Full video is here: https://lnkd.in/gwTMrPt2. At KWK, we make a commitment to provide longitudinal support to our community members for a decade -- from the time they join us when they are teenagers until they enter the workforce. By doing so, we are a solution to retain young women and gender-expansive technical talent on their education and career journeys. Talent retention is the only way we can hope to close the gender gap in tech. The AI inflection point has only increased the urgency of our mission and we have a responsibility to be even more helpful. We will continue to change the mix of supporting programs we offer to help our community thrive and succeed. In case you missed it, I talk more about KWK's next decade here: https://lnkd.in/gV3hTZQy

Happy 10th anniversary, Kode With Klossy (KWK)! In 2015, Karlie Kloss started KWK with just 21 scholarships. Today, on our official anniversary day (May 15), we are elated to celebrate a decade of impact by highlighting select stories from our community. Head to our updated "KWK10" website -- https://www.kwk10.com -- to learn about our alumni community in their own words. When you visit the site, or check out our Instagram feed, you will meet Dominique, one of our earliest community members who joined KWK in 2017: https://lnkd.in/gx7syRnn Dominque, Kayley, and Christine are just 3 examples of *thousands* of impact stories. Each story is unique, but what connects our alumni to each other is a shared purpose: the ambition to follow their passion for technology throughout their education and career. We will share more of these stories in the days and weeks ahead. Our 10th anniversary celebration is going to continue all year. We wil be looking back with gratitude and looking forward to our next horizon of impact. The KWK team is a small, scrappy crew of 16.
