About us

Macon-Bibb County is Georgia’s fourth-largest city and a vital cultural, transportation, and logistics hub for the region. In 2011, residents overwhelmingly voted to consolidate the separate city and county governments into a single unified government, a change that took effect on January 1, 2014. Today, Macon-Bibb County serves as both the municipal and county government for approximately 155,000 residents. Led by a 10-member Commission and a Mayor who serves as Chair, the government delivers essential infrastructure, services, and programs that support a vibrant economy, strong communities, and long-term regional growth.

  • On Thursday, Nov. 20, members of the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department, along with community partners, spent the afternoon with 3rd-5th grade Reading Achievers at Bruce Elementary for a lunch focused on building life and soft skills. In partnership with 100 Black Men of Middle Georgia, students practiced table etiquette, learned how to give a confident introduction, and engaged in thoughtful conversation with firefighters and local leaders. These real-world interactions help reinforce skills that are best developed through experience and positive mentorship. The luncheon is part of the organization’s ongoing adoption of Bruce Elementary, which includes providing life-skills sessions, academic support, literacy incentives, financial literacy classes, field trips, and support for the school’s Cub Scout Pack. Funding through the Community Foundation of Central Georgia, via the Macon Violence Prevention program, helps make these opportunities possible. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/e7PzKrcH

  • On Tuesday, November 18, the Macon-Bibb County Commission unanimously approved $50,000 in funding for the Family Counseling Center of Central Georgia (FCC), using interest earned from ARPA funds. This investment will directly strengthen services for victims of crime in our community. The FCC is projected to serve more than 1,200 clients and provide 4,500+ therapy sessions this year, nearly half of which support victims of crime. This reflects a 20% increase in clients and a 47% increase in sessions since 2024, even as the organization faces a significant reduction in state and federal funding heading into 2026. The County’s allocation will ensure victims have timely access to free counseling and will bolster the R.I.S.E. program led by the District Attorney’s Office. Proud to see continued investment in critical, community-based victim services. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eg6dMCuW
