When the Season Doesn’t Feel So Calm or Bright. During this time, it’s crucial for individuals to reach out and support one another, embracing the true spirit of the season. The holidays often highlight the challenges faced by those struggling with mental health. Understanding Triggers It’s essential to recognize that the sources of holiday-related stress can vary. Common triggers include: • Memories that resurface • Recurring stressful patterns each holiday season • Potential new crises By preparing yourself and understanding how different triggers impact you, you can alleviate some of the stress. Additionally, identifying why you may feel anxious or sad during this time can help you better navigate the rest of the season. Thank you, Eastern University, for featuring us in your Fall 2025 newsletter! Here’s a recap: On Saturday, October 18th, students from both the BSW and MSW programs at Eastern University demonstrated their dedication to community advocacy by taking part in the annual NAMIWalks Philly event. This initiative aimed to raise awareness and funds for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), promoting the message of “Mental Health for All.” Students truly embodied the essence of the social work profession by participating in the walk and serving as Event Staff. We wish to express our sincere gratitude to Courtney Hudson, an MSW student at Eastern University and a NAMI Philly volunteer, for her valuable contribution of time and effort. #NAMIWalksPhilly #EasternUniversityStudents #Together4MH #BSW #MSW #CommunityAdvocacy Eastern University National Alliance on Mental Illness - Philadelphia (NAMI Philly) Kyle Carter M.Ed, LBS COMHAR, Inc. Last evening, two teams from the Barnett College of Public Health competed in the final round of Temple University’s inaugural Public Policy Lab Challenge—a universitywide competition where students propose policy solutions to pressing health issues in Pennsylvania and Philadelphia. More than 20 teams submitted proposals, with only five selected to present to a panel of judges. We're to share that both Barnett College of Public Health teams placed at the top! ✨ First Runner-Up: Sasan Aryanezhad, Ellie Lord, Riddhi Malunjkar, and Chelsea Zarzuela 🏆 Winners: Heather Border, Tahya Eldreny, Gabe Puckett, and Laksha Thulasiram The winning proposal—“Promoting Sexual Health in Older Adults: A Policy Proposal for Condom Distribution in Philadelphia Continuing Care Retirement Communities”—will now be refined as the team prepares for the national “Policy Super Bowl” at the University of Chicago in February 2026. Congratulations to both teams on their outstanding work and commitment to improving community health! 🦉❤️
