Preservation Texas presents biennial Honor Awards which recognize outstanding individuals in the field of preservation, as well as recent historic preservation, restoration, rehabilitation, reconstruction, and infill projects from across the state. Our Honor Awards are divided into two main categories: Individual Awards and Preservation Project Awards, each with several specialized subcategories. Self-nominations are welcome, but require at least two letters of support. Preservation Project Award winners may be featured in Texas Architect magazine, published by the Texas Society of Architects. Detailed award descriptions, eligibility criteria, and nomination forms can be found at https://lnkd.in/gA3kk2BE The 2025 Honor Awards ceremony will take place on the evening of Thursday, October 30th, in San Antonio. The event will be held in the auditorium of the remarkable 1924 Scottish Rite Hall, home of the San Antonio Philharmonic. The deadline to submit a nomination is 5:00 PM CST on Friday, September 12th.

Our new exhibit, Adobe at the Pass: Documenting the Mission Valley in 1936, will open on March 27, 2025 at the El Paso County Heritage Center at 201 E San Antonio Ave in downtown El Paso! This bilingual exhibit features large-format black and white photographs of iconic adobe structures in El Paso County taken by architect Marvin Eickenroht in 1936 as part of the New Deal-era Historic American Buildings Survey program. It also explores the history, significance, and future of adobe construction in West Texas. Made possible in part by a grant from El Paso County, the Heritage Center will showcase rotating exhibits highlighting El Paso and West Texas’ unique cultural heritage. It will also serve as the starting point for historical tours, office and retail space, and a hub for historic preservation inquiries and heritage tourism information. The formal opening of the Heritage Center is expected to take place later in May. In the meantime, we welcome the public to stop by and visit the exhibit!
