A Year of Change, Growth, and Gratitude This year we made a big move from Kaka‘ako to our new home in Salt Lake — nearly three times the space and filled with new possibilities. It was a huge step for our small but mighty team, and we’re so grateful for everyone who helped make it possible. Mahalo to our team, donors, partners, volunteers, and community. We can’t wait to share more in our upcoming Annual Report, but here’s a small look at what you helped make happen.

About us
Re-use Hawai‘i is a non-profit employment social enterprise dedicated to reducing waste and expanding green job opportunities. Through building deconstruction and material reuse, our mission is to foster an inclusive circular economy in Hawai‘i. We envision a future where waste reduction and the preservation of resources is maximized through deconstruction and building material reuse, allowing the circular economy to thrive. Through the process of deconstruction, we disassemble structures by hand to recover usable building material, which is then made available to the community at our Redistribution Centers.

Our Deconstruction Crew was honored to contribute to such a thoughtfully designed and environmentally conscious project. The Kona Village restoration reflects how careful planning and collaboration across disciplines can preserve Hawai‘i’s history while shaping a sustainable future. Mahalo to Walker Warner and the project team for recognizing the value of material reuse and the importance of keeping resources in circulation for generations to come.
The design of Kona Village respects the past while looking toward the future. Every element has been carefully curated to celebrate the history of the place, strengthening connections with both habitat and heritage. We’re proud to have partnered with HomeAid Hawaii and Hawai'i Health & Harm Reduction Center (@HHHRC) as part of the State of Hawai‘i’s Kauhale Initiative, supporting the expansion of Ho‘okahi Leo Kauhale, a community providing long-term, supportive housing rooted in dignity, healing, and connection for those experiencing homelessness. Through this collaboration, we salvaged $10,700 worth of furniture from a renovation at the Ala Moana Hotel, diverted it from the landfill, and redirected it into homes and shared spaces for Kauhale residents. We’re especially excited to have helped launch a workforce development program for Kauhale residents offering hands-on training and certifications to build confidence, skill sets, and new opportunities. This project reminds us that reuse is about more than materials — it’s about people, purpose, and shared progress. Mahalo to the partners and residents who continue to shape this community with purpose and heart. #ReuseHawaii #KauhaleLiving #Kauhale #CommunityImpact #WorkforceDevelopment #SustainableHawaii #HomeAidHawaii #HHHRC #CircularEconomy #HousingSolutions #SecondChances #EnvironmentalStewardship #CollaborationMatters #Hawaii
HomeAid Hawai‘i, Hawai'i Health & Harm Reduction Center (HHHRC), and Re-use Hawai‘i are working together through the State of Hawaiʻi's Kauhale Initiative to enhance Ho‘okahi Leo Kauhale and strengthen its support for residents and long-term stability. Earlier this month, as part of an ongoing effort to build and furnish the community, Re-use Hawai‘i delivered $10,700 worth of donated furniture salvaged from a renovation at the Ala Moana Hotel. The furniture, which would have otherwise gone to a landfill, was redirected into homes and communal spaces at Ho‘okahi Leo. “We really rely on partnerships in the building industry to bring down the cost of construction,” said Miranda Michiyo Linsky, Chief Impact Officer of HomeAid Hawai‘i. “What normally would have gone to a landfill can be reused and recycled and make the Kauhale program more sustainable in the long run.” Team members from HomeAid Hawai‘i and HHHRC worked with residents to unload and place the furniture throughout the homes, making the process quick and easy. “It’s giving second life to furniture and giving second chances to people, which is just as important in our mission,” said Nathaniel Pak of Re-use Hawai‘i. On the same day, HHHRC and Re-use Hawai‘i launched a new workforce development program for the residents. The program offers hands-on training to gain certifications and credentials that will help residents find full-time employment. “Many of them may not have had any work experience,” said Kawaiarii Keaulana, HHHRC’s Kauhale Program Manager. “They're so excited to gain certifications to build their skills.” This pilot program explores workforce development, which aligns with the broader goals of the Kauhale Initiative. HomeAid Hawai‘i focuses on driving down construction costs through donated land, builder and supplier discounts, fundraising, grants, and policy tools. HHHRC complements this by managing resident services, cultivating leadership, and supporting community-led decision-making. Partners like Re-use Hawai‘i, whose mission aligns with these goals, help make this a true community effort—one that reduces homelessness across Hawai‘i, supports residents, and protects the environment through sustainable practices. Phase II of Ho‘okahi Leo is now underway, with 30 new homes and shared communal facilities being built to expand the existing village. #kauhaleliving #kauhale #reusehawaii #hhhrc #homeaidhawaii #hawaii

🌎 Saving money and the planet? That’s what we call a win-win. In FY 2024,17,214 people shopped with us—helping to keep usable materials in circulation and out of Hawai‘i’s landfills. 🙌 Together, our community saved over $519,589 by choosing reclaimed and affordable alternatives to new, imported goods. 😁 That’s more than just savings—it’s impact. Every salvaged item purchased supports our mission, reduces environmental strain, and helps create green jobs right here in the islands. ♻️ Mahalo for shopping secondhand, choosing sustainability, and making reuse a part of your lifestyle. ☀️🌴🏠 #CommunitySavings #ReuseHawaii #RedistributionCenter #ShopSecondhand #CircularEconomy #SustainableHawaii #Hawaii #Aloha #Hawaiʻi
