Doing the Most Good

About us

The Salvation Army exists to meet human need wherever, whenever, and however we can. We serve the homeless, hungry, and poor of every ZIP code across Florida. To end poverty is to help end a host of related struggles: hunger, addiction, housing insecurity, mental illness, unemployment, educational voids, and various forms of abuse. Generation after generation, these interrelated issues persist. Through short- and long-term support, we strive to meet the needs of the whole person. We combat the symptoms of poverty with programs serving the body, mind, and soul, then look for the root issues causing them. It's a holistic approach that creates a lasting chance for millions of people each day. Mission Statement The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

Updates

  • Robin Velasquez from Disaster Response Ministries International has volunteered with The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services for the last two years. This week, she met another Salvation Army volunteer, Idania Valentin, on the set of a training video being filmed at the Florida EDS warehouse. They became fast friends. On Wednesday afternoon, The Salvation Army Florida Division prepared its second shipment of Hurricane Melissa disaster relief supplies but need a driver to get the shipment to south Florida. Ms. Velasquez, a retired school bus driver, had experience driving The Salvation Army Canteens, and she volunteered to drive the semi-truck down. Her new friend, Ms. Valentin, joined her on a 12-hour road trip to deliver much-needed food and supplies to Jamaican storm survivors. Thank you to these brave and dedicated volunteers! Those wishing to support international relief efforts from within the United States may donate financial gifts to The Salvation Army World Service Office (SAWSO) at www.SAWSO.org, where 100 percent of designated disaster gifts go directly to response and recovery. #DoingTheMostGood
