As philanthropic organizations operating on the unceded territories of the Lisjan Ohlone people, we have an opportunity—and responsibility—to move beyond acknowledgment toward meaningful action. In collaboration with Sogorea Te Land Trust, Bay Area Asset Funders Network and the East Bay Community Foundation, we have released a joint statement highlighting how institutions can meaningfully support Indigenous-led efforts through Shuumi Land Tax. Healing starts with community, and this Native American Heritage Month, we lift up SFF grantee Friendship House Association of American Indians. The organization creates space for Native families to reconnect with culture, find wellness, build connections, and heal through their Village SF Wellness Center. Scheduled to open in 2026, the center represents a transformative, Native-led model of holistic healing, featuring substance use treatment, transitional housing, comprehensive health services, cultural revitalization programs, youth and elder programs, and intertribal community support. The Village SF will serve over 7,000 community members each year. SFF's Fred Blackwell joined the Latino Community Foundation's Demo Day as a judge, where Latinx leaders presented their bold, innovative solutions for Latinx families across California. Their vision and commitment to shaping a future where Latinx communities thrive were inspiring. We’re proud to partner with the Latino Community Foundation to uplift community leaders who are driving lasting change—with civic power and economic justice at the center.

SFF joined grantee Roots Community Health as they officially broke ground on the Young People’s Wellness Center—a first-of-its-kind space designed with and for youth in East Oakland. The center will offer healthcare, mentorship, and leadership programs for young people ages 13–26, building a foundation for health, safety, and hope. Thanks to community support and a generous SFF donor, Phase 1 of our $2.3 million campaign is complete, making construction possible. Our immigrant communities are integral to the vibrancy and economic vitality of the Bay Area, contributing to the region’s cultural diversity, filling in critical labor gaps as workers, and boosting local economies as small business owners. More than ever, there is an urgent need to provide resources to help immigrant families navigate this challenging time. SFF grantee FAITH IN ACTION BAY AREA is at the forefront of this effort, providing vital legal and financial support for families in San Mateo County at risk of homelessness and food insecurity as a result of immigration deportations and detainment. Learn how they are meeting the moment, providing a critical lifeline for immigrants: https://ow.ly/yFWx50XqKbO

Did you know? In 1953, SFF provided KQED with its very first grant to help launch the Bay Area’s first public media station. Now, with federal funding slashed, KQED urgently needs donations to continue its critical programming and local, fact-based journalism. Here’s how we’re stepping up: TODAY, November 13, San Francisco Foundation will match every donation up to $25,000. Donate to KQED TODAY to show how much the Bay Area values public media! https://ow.ly/hkZn50XmKSJ Pictured: KQED President Michael Isip with SFF CEO Fred Blackwell 📸: Ling Woo Liu
