We're celebrating our latest DAISY Award Honoree, Marty Fowler, RN, from our Pascagoula Hospital Ortho-Neuro Surgical Unit. Her patient-centered care and compassion made a profound difference during a difficult hospital stay. 💛 “I have been in the hospital for over a week now, and during one of the most difficult experiences of my life, Marty has been the bright light that has truly made a difference. I’ve had several nurses during my stay, but none compared to her. She has been my nurse most nights, and every shift she has gone above and beyond in every way possible. From the very beginning, Marty showed compassion, empathy, and genuine care that is rare to find in healthcare today. No matter how busy she is, she never rushes through her time with you. She always takes the time to explain what is going on, answers every question with patience, and communicates with you in a way that makes you feel safe and seen. She treats you like a real person, not just a patient, and that makes all the difference when you are scared, uncomfortable, and vulnerable. There have been moments when I was in pain, scared, or unsure about what was happening with my care, and Marty was always quick to respond. She is attentive, understanding, and has a calm, reassuring presence that brings comfort even in the middle of the night. She never once dismissed my concerns or made me feel like a burden, which cannot be said for every nurse. Her kindness and professionalism never waver, no matter how hectic the floor gets. I have learned through this hospital stay that not everyone in this field is here for the right reasons, but Marty absolutely is. She represents everything that is good and meaningful about nursing: compassion, dedication, heart, and true care for people. Every nurse could take a lesson from how she treats her patients. I genuinely believe she was meant to do this work, and I feel so blessed to have met her and been cared for by her. Marty is exactly what the DAISY Award stands for.
