This is our favorite time of year: a time to pause, to gather, and to give thanks. We are thankful for our Board, our corporate and philanthropic partners, our partners at The School District of Philadelphia, and most importantly, the incredible students, dynamic staff, and supportive families that we work on behalf of every day. Have a happy and healthy Thanksgiving Holiday!

Last week, we dropped by Conwell Middle Magnet School in Kensington and checked in on the high impact tutoring (HIT) program - an evidence-based form of instruction intended to support student learning by providing small-group, intensive support during the school day. Provided by a qualified tutor, the program is personalized and driven by student need, and is responsive to core curriculum. The program is a key priority of The School District of Philadelphia's five year strategic plan, Accelerate Philly.

On Saturday, The Fund’s President & CEO Kathryn Epps joined Debora Borges-Carrera, Ed. D., Chief Education Officer for the City of Philadelphia, The School District of Philadelphia Superintendent Tony B. Watlington Sr., Ed.D., Nyshawana Francis-Thompson, Ed.D and Lashaunda Robinson from the district’s Office of Curriculum and Instruction, Academy At Palumbo students Leila Salama and Angel Okeke, and a host of students, families, educators and community members at the National Constitution Center to kickoff of PHILLY 250: The (In)Visible Architects of Freedom. This initiative is a commitment to inclusive storytelling, designed to commemorate Philadelphia’s pivotal role in the nation’s founding while decisively centering the contributions of African Americans and other historically marginalized communities. It’s official: students and families at John H. Taggart School now have access to a fresh produce stand! 🥦🍅 Many thanks to our partners at The School District of Philadelphia, Eat Right Philly, Share Food Program, and The GIANT Company. Programs that increase food access for all families are critical now more than ever. We are proud to continue supporting this work.
