Noah Hamilton, a talent acquisition specialist with UM Health-Sparrow Human Resources, is the recipient of the November Sparrow Spotlight award for his swift response during a medical emergency. The incident occurred when a new team member experienced a medical episode during onboarding. Hamilton, who’s worked for UM Health-Sparrow for over three years, heard a call for help and immediately rushed to assist. He performed chest compressions until the individual began to recover. “Whether we're in a clinical or a non-clinical role, we all kind of have that shared responsibility here to help provide the best care,” Hamilton said. “I think that's one of the unique, rewarding parts about the health care industry. Whatever our job responsibilities look like, everyone comes together in that collaborative effort." Hamilton, who started at UM Health-Sparrow just two weeks after completing his undergraduate degree, said he enjoys working for the organization. “There is a lot of great leadership here,” he said.

Earlier this week, team members from UM Health-Sparrow Carson provided Thanksgiving meal boxes to individuals and families in need. “Our mission is to advance the health of the communities we serve, and that commitment doesn’t stop at our hospital walls,” said Mariah Hesse, chief nursing officer at UM Health-Sparrow Carson. “By providing these meals, we are addressing a critical social need and helping to ensure our neighbors can share in the comfort and connection of a Thanksgiving dinner, which is so important for overall wellness.” Hospital staff contributed to the effort by donating nonperishable food items. Donations include canned goods like green beans, corn, soup, and pie filling, as well as boxed stuffing, pasta and Jell-O. The effort at the UM Health-Sparrow Carson is part of a broader push across U-M Health to address food insecurity during the holiday season. Today is National Rural Health Day. UM Health-Sparrow is proud to spotlight the incredible work of our community hospitals in Carson City, Charlotte, Ionia, St. Johns and throughout Mid-Michigan. These hospitals embody the "power of rural" by providing essential, compassionate care to our neighbors. Our Carson City hospital is demonstrating a robust commitment to growth with the recent opening of a new cardiac rehabilitation center. This expansion is part of a capital investment of over $15 million from U-M Health in UM Health-Sparrow Carson over three years. Today, we recognize and honor the talent and commitment of our many wonderful team members at our community hospitals throughout the state. For more information, go to UofMHealthSparrow.org
