Four years ago at COP26, countries agreed to a $40 billion adaptation goal. And at this year's #COP30, they agreed to triple this goal. But is it possible? Our research says yes. But every relevant source of finance will need to step up, and the system will need to work better as a whole. Learn how the tripling could be achieved: https://lnkd.in/giNHQv-J #adaptation #climatefinance #adaptationfinance #climate #WRIatCOP30 #NCQG #MDB #development #finance

💸In 1992, Rio Earth Summit in Brazil saw nations committing to finance nature conservation. 🌲Despite the long wait, Brazil took lead at #COP30 to realize that commitment with Tropical Forest Forever Facility (#TFFF). With an innovative approach, it could flip the economics in favor of conservation. With efforts to halt temperature rise severely off track, #COP30 aimed to establish clear pathways to deliver past pledges and put the world on a safer track. Was it successful at doing so? In some areas, the summit renewed commitment to climate action, while failing in others - such as addressing fossil fuel transition. 🏭Together with development assistance, investment in overseas industrial parks is a leading form of China’s international investment. ☀️And our research shows that they hold a great potential for reducing emissions by utilizing renewables: By 2050, converting all of the China’s overseas industrial parks to solar PV and wind power systems would bring the world 2% closer to reaching net zero. Making the transition before 2030 will bring the world nearly 5% closer to achieving this goal. During #Thanksgiving, it’s worth reflecting on the systems that shape our traditions🌽 While it can be a meaningful time of gratitude for many, Thanksgiving is also rooted in a history of colonization and harm to Indigenous communities—a legacy that persists in the inequities of our food systems today. About 40% of all food produced globally by weight is wasted between farm and fork. That 40% could feed every food-insecure person three full meals a day, every day, for a year — with leftovers. If current trends persist, this waste will double by 2050. But imagine what we could achieve by getting more out of the food we already produce. Here's another powerful example: With the $1 trillion food waste costs every year, we could spend 10% more on global health. We delve into the scope of this challenge and the global benefits of minimizing wasted food, as well as solutions at the individual, local and national levels👉 https://lnkd.in/ew2Wb5kS #FoodWaste #Environment #ClimateChange #Emissions #Food

Despite the mixed outcomes of #COP30, one thing was clear: Local leaders aim higher and move faster on climate action than national governments. With initiatives like the Coalition for High Ambition Multilevel Partnerships (#CHAMP), Beat the Heat Initiative, and commitments to improving transportation, cities proved to be an integral part of climate action. Read why cities had a breakthrough at COP30 from Rogier van den Berg, Global Director, WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities: https://lnkd.in/ex3Z7DuF #BeattheHeat #LocalAction #ClimateAction
