Two-factor authentication is a great way to protect your account. Two methods of authentication are available: text (SMS) authentication, and authenticator app authentication. LinkedIn recommends the authenticator app as the preferred two-factor authentication method. An authenticator mobile app gives you easy, secure access to online accounts you can use for a second layer of security in addition to your password entry. One example of an authenticator app is Microsoft Authenticator.
Follow the steps below to set up the authenticator app for two-factor authentication:
- Install an authenticator app from your app store (such as Microsoft Authenticator).
- Select the profile icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage and select Settings & Privacy.
- Under the Sign-in & security, select Two-factor authentication to enable or change your two-factor authentication method.
- Enable two-factor authentication and choose Authenticator App as your authentication method. Select Continue and submit your LinkedIn password.
- Open your authenticator app and tap Add Account or click the + icon at the top right corner. If this is your first time setting up an account on the app, you’ll be prompted to set up an account.
- Select Other and use “LinkedIn” as the account name.
- Enter the secret key provided by LinkedIn into the Authenticator App.
- Enter the 6-digit authentication code generated by your authenticator app to authenticate your device.
