“Everyone can now express themselves — but not everyone can make it work emotionally.” — Irdin (Nino) Begic, Soda Zitron Media At this week’s CultTech Association Summit in Vienna, this line stayed with me. It framed one of the most thoughtful panels I’ve heard on how AI is reshaping the creative economy — not just the tools, but the talent, business models, and values behind them. The session, Evolving Creative Processes and AI’s Role in the Creative Economy, brought together Benjamin James (Atlas), Irdin (Nino) Begic , Fran Sanderson (Figurative), and Thibaud Morin (Level-Up) — moderated by Miriam Kathrein from EIT Culture & Creativity. Architect Benjamin James spoke about AI as augmentation rather than automation: “AI lets us explore a thousand creative directions in minutes — it’s not about replacing creativity, but widening the solution space.” Filmmaker Nino Begić reminded us that AI democratizes expression, but craftsmanship still matters: “It’s cool that everyone can create, but there’s a difference between expression and execution.” From the investor’s chair, Thibaut Morin noted: “Every startup now claims AI — but it’s talent that gives direction, not the tool. Every year I'm a little slower to my recap post, I think it's bc the themes surrounding AI grow more complex to recap each time! Ai4 2025 was incredible. It’s still crazy to me that Ai4 has become the de facto annual meeting place for the global AI industry… Seeing Ai4 grow from 300 people in 2018 to 8,000 humans in 2025 really drove home how many talented people have been attracted to the AI industry. Knowing that those who attend Ai4 represent just a tiny fraction of the millions of professionals around the world who are shifting their careers towards AI is amazing. This technology is creating opportunities for so many individuals, families, businesses, countries… it’s nothing short of epic. Over the past 5 years, we’ve all noticed the AI shift that’s occurred- from “maybe it’ll make a difference” towards “AI is an inevitable part of our future.” This inevitability has significant headwinds, even beyond the $100 billion investment headlines. - Universities are creating AI-specific programs to train more AI professionals. - A quarter of Fortune 500s have appointed AI-specific leadership, typically a CAIO, with that number growing rapidly. - Most major countries have published or are working on a national AI strategy.  - The AI alignment debate has entered popular culture. The shear number of people now engaged in society’s AI effort has me, like so many others, wondering how it’s going to play out for us. Will the AI industry keep growing at an insane pace? Will AI render most jobs obsolete? What will AI’s unintended impacts be, whether positive or negative, on society? How do we align AI with human interests? These are just a few of the many questions that this technology confronts us with. While there are no perfect answers, it’s now more obvious than ever that we need to build AI responsibly and we need to thoughtfully adjust society around this technology to make the transition to an AI-powered civilization as smooth as possible. As long as we listen to each other and build this technology together, I trust our AI-powered future will be awesome and will lift the quality of life for everyone. The innovation we need is not in technology, but in how we treat each other and how we view each other as human beings. There is so much discussion about capitalism, AI, green tech, and “the future of innovation.” But these are all proxies. All are just reflections of human perception (the #InvisibleBackpack each of us carries). Every system, platform tool created is built on an assumption. If the assumption is that humans must compete, then our technologies will be designed to amplify competition. If the assumption is that some people deserve more because of their skin color, religion, nationality, or culture, our economic systems will be designed to reproduce those hierarchies. If the assumption is that value has to be measured through how much material assets one accumulates and how much extraction is needed for that, our business models will extract and our business leaders will accumulate. No amount of “better AI,” “green business,” or “ethical tech” will fix anything if the underlying belief is still that some lives matter more than others. Technology does not change society. The assumptions we hold about each others as humans do. Regardless of background, geography, skin color, language, culture, or faith, humans are humans. We all breathe the same air, need the same water, long for dignity, safety, belonging, and love.
