Are you prioritising your health over your work? 👷 Too often in construction, the mindset of ‘toughing it out’ overrides mental and physical health concerns. This Mental Health Awareness Month, take some time to consider if you need help. 50% of men have struggled with mental health difficulties at some point, yet fewer than half have sought medical advice. 🧠 Advocating for your own and others' health in the industry will help break the stigma and save lives. ✅ You can take training such as Mental Health First Aider to help support your team and know the signs: https://lnkd.in/dn3vntPw

Important article by Scott Teasdale and Simon Rosenbaum, which puts a powerful new policy spin on their Lancet Commission publication from earlier this year, which summarised the evidence for #physicalhealth interventions for people receiving #mentalhealth care. The most urgent priorities include: - Embedding lifestyle interventions into clinical guidelines and commissioning frameworks. - Investing in a specialist workforce, including dietitians and exercise physiologists, within mental health services. - Expanding peer roles, to support sustained implementation of interventions. - Ensuring interventions are equity-focused, adapted for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, culturally and linguistically diverse groups, and people living in low-resource settings. - Establishing long-term funding mechanisms that move beyond pilot projects to sustainable services. Inclusion in the Medical Journal of Australia creates important momentum for the widespread adoption of supports like Mindgardens' and South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD)'s #KeepingTheBodyInMind program, which has demonstrated positive physical health outcomes in nutrition, physical activity, smoking cessation and vaccination. The evidence is in. It's time for policy-makers to put it into practice. #livedexperience Equally Well Australia, Psychosis Australia, Dietitians Australia, Australian College of Mental Health Nurses, The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP), Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA).

📌 📌 📌 ‼️ ‼️ ‼️ LIFESTYLE INTERVENTIONS MUST BECOME A CORE PART OF MENTAL HEALTH CARE ‼️ ‼️ ‼️ 📌 📌 📌 📢 Important policy contribution from close colleagues and collaborators Dr Scott Teasdale and Prof Simon Rosenbaum, building on our Lancet Commission work earlier this year. Their new article in the Medical Journal of Australia outlines clear priorities for embedding physical health interventions into mental health care: ✅ Integrating lifestyle approaches into clinical guidelines and commissioning ✅ Investing in a specialist workforce (dietitians, exercise physiologists) ✅ Expanding peer roles for sustained implementation ✅ Ensuring equity-focused adaptation for diverse communities ✅ Securing long-term funding beyond pilots Programs like #KeepingtheBodyinMind — a collaboration between Mindgardens Neuroscience Network and South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) and UNSW Medicine & Health— are already demonstrating impact. The evidence is strong. Now it’s time for policy to catch up. 🔗 Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/gw2dzuxe 👏 Great work and continued advocacy Scott and Simon 👏 #MentalHealth #PhysicalHealth #Policy #KeepingTheBodyInMind #Mindgardens #SESLHD #HealthEquity #ImplementationScience

They are evidence-based, cost-effective, and life-saving.” UNSW researchers Dr Scott Teasdale and Professor Simon Rosenbaum are calling for urgent action to address the physical health inequities facing Australians living with severe mental illness. Their Medical Journal of Australia InSight+ article presents a roadmap for change – spanning mental health clinical practice, services and policies.

What’s one approach you’ve found effective for raising mental health awareness in your community or workplace? Self-disclosure has a way of reaching the target audience within the community. If you can identify with a particular incident, people with similar issues are likely to reach out.
