How can design empower every learner? Tomorrow at the Greenbuild International Conference & Expo, we’re joining an incredible group of collaborators to explore how community engagement can inform inclusive design for K–12 schools. Kevin Symons, Senior Associate at Mackey Mitchell Architects, will present alongside Victoria Lanteigne, PhD, WELL AP (The CIDIE Lab, North Carolina State University), Traci Rose Rider, PhD (North Carolina State University), and Stephanie Morales (Mahlum Architects Inc.). Together, they’ll share how empathy, listening, and collaboration can lead to learning environments that reflect and empower every student. We’re proud to be part of this important conversation about inclusion, belonging, and the future of educational design.

Learning spaces aren’t just containers. They can be -so- much more. How can we design spaces that are flexible, sustainable, and truly inclusive? We're thrilled to be discussing this at A4LE-Association for Learning Environments's #LearningSCAPES25 with an incredible panel. Join our founder, Bridgitte Alomes, alongside Dr. Sandra-Lynn Shortall of West Vancouver School District and Rory Richards of NUQO Modular (a female-led, Indigenous construction company!). They'll be presenting "Beyond What Meets the Eye," a look into how modular, biophilic design and a systems-thinking approach can unlock hidden potential for our learners and communities. Together, we’ll explore: - Applying systems thinking to find hidden potential at the intersection of equity and design. - How biophilic, sustainable modular systems enhance child development and offer cost predictability. - Strategies for transforming schools into dynamic, flexible community hubs built for future learners. Will you be in Phoenix? We'd love to see you there. 🗓 When: Friday, October 31 | 8:30–9:30am 📍 Where: Room 162–163 Learn more about the conversations we’re leading at LearningSCAPES 2025: https://lnkd.in/gnUPmTvx #DesignForLearning #EducationDesign #SchoolInnovation #LearningEnvironments

Celebrating the Design-Build approach at the UC Riverside School of Business The UCR School of Business stands as a strong example of the design-build delivery method fully embracing Design Excellence principles. Completed in late 2024, the project transformed a steep, constrained hillside — adjacent to the Box Springs Mountain Reserve — into a vibrant academic hub, linking the South Campus District to the university. This project highlights how early team integration, strategic phasing, and stakeholder engagement helped overcome site limitations, limited access and a fast-tracked schedule. Designed by HOK as a “building in the round,” the new facility integrates seamlessly with existing structures to enhance connectivity, maximize program functionality and foster a sense of place and student belonging. With features like a solar canopy, sustainable building systems, active circulation paths, and welcoming student-centered spaces, the School of Business exemplifies community impact, healthy living and design responsibility. The finished project met not only functional needs but also set the tone for future campus growth — all while supporting the university’s mission of innovation and educational excellence. #DesignBuild #DBIACON #DesignandConstruction #HealthcareDesign #Teamwork

The facilities that make up higher education campuses aren’t just backdrops; they’re strategic tools in the competition for enrollment. As institutions compete for fewer students, campuses are rethinking how they design, renovate, and showcase spaces — inside and out — to attract and retain students. How is your college or university using its unique campus and experiences to stand out? See some examples of inspirational spaces in GMB’s latest Insights, "Built to Attract: How Campus Spaces Are Shaping Enrollment Trends": https://bit.ly/493VUkH
