Father’s Day has a different meaning these days when service meant missing milestones, or when coming home wasn’t a welcome but a reckoning. I respect the sacrifices that are often celebrated, but I also carry the ones that aren’t: the fractured relationships, the unprocessed trauma, the quiet wondering if it was all worth it. For some of us, being a father after service means learning how to show up in ways we were never shown. That’s sacrifice too. And that’s the kind I’m working to honor every day.
Navy dads may be far away out at sea, but their hearts are back home!
