Why we built Airpass: Because travel disruption is more than an inconvenience

Airpass wasn’t born in a boardroom. It was born while waiting in a boarding line.

If you’ve ever waited in a boarding gate, watching the status flip from On TimeDelayedCancelled, you know the frustration. You’ve seen fellow passengers frantically hunting alternate flights, paying extra, rearranging plans, or worse - getting stuck with nothing but disappointment.

But it’s not just your gut feeling; the data backs it.

In May 2024, one of India’s leading airlines’ OTP (on-time performance) at four key metro airports dropped sharply: 27.2% of its departures were delayed, affecting over 46,900 passengers who waited more than two hours.

What’s more, 61% of Indian fliers have confessed they had experienced at least one flight cancellation in the past year, and many lost out on refunds or had to scramble for alternate plans.

For domestic airlines, cancellation rates aren’t astronomical. For instance, in 2024, SpiceJet recorded a cancellation rate of around 1.81%, and IndiGo about 1.17%. But the impact is disproportionately large: even one cancelled flight can ripple across your entire trip. And when there’s no buffer or safety net, customers absorb the cost financially, emotionally, and in opportunity lost.

We’re frequent fliers ourselves, which is why this was as much a personal problem as it was a consumer problem that we set out to solve.

And so, we built Airpass: not because we wanted another product, but because we felt the frustration too. Airpass is the only pass that actually pays you back when disruption hits:

  • Delayed? ₹1,500 cash straight to your bank.
  • Cancelled? A flat ₹3,000 discount on rebooking.
  • Missed? Up to ₹3,000 off your rebooked ticket.

You don’t have to file endless claims or chase airlines. It works with every domestic airline, and yes, booking made via any app/websites (MakeMyTrip, EaseMyTrip, airline websites) is fine. Unlimited flights, all year. The moment disruption occurs, Airpass steps in automatically.

We are aware that air travel in India is often unpredictable. The odds are stacked against the traveller more often than we care to admit. Airlines deal with weather, crew shortages, airspace constraints, and technical glitches, but the burden shouldn’t fall entirely on you.

And we also know that we can’t control air traffic, we’ve absolutely no hold on the weather and that even the best laid plans can be put to rest - and that’s okay. Airpass is here to make sure even the unplanned moments feel easier and stress-free.

If you’ve not checked it out yet, what are you waiting for? If you haven’t checked out Airpass yet - don’t wait! Click here to get your Airpass today!
