Why did Sandeep return to IBM after years away? For him, it was the chance to create impact and stay at the forefront of innovation. He fondly remembers his first IBM chapter as one that was unforgettable. He was leading a digitization journey for a Singaporean bank, and that taught him resilience, collaboration, and the power of technology. Cat memes brought them together. 😻 When Szabina returned to IBM in Budapest, she didn’t expect to find a kindred spirit, or someone who loved cats (and coffee ☕) as much as she did. That someone was Alex. Two IBM Alumni who found their way back, both now thriving in Talent Attraction. Szabina first returned as a recruiter, then got promoted to manage a team of recruiters, and now she is a Strategy & Transformation Lead. While Alex, after exploring sales support and finance, rediscovered her spark in Talent Acquisition. “I had no idea what I wanted to do,” Alex laughs. “But IBM let me explore until I found my place.” Szabina says: “Coming back was a dream come true. ✨Curious about why someone would come back to IBM after about 20 years? When Sandi joined IBM in 1997, she had 14 years in tech, mostly in hardware. Moving into enterprise software with Tivoli Systems (now IBM) opened a new chapter of new skills and a more broad perspective. She later managed a speaker program for Tivoli experts and worked on content strategy with brilliant minds, including a rising star named Arvind Krishna, now IBM's CEO. Those years taught Sandi the power of storytelling and building awareness for innovation. Even after leaving IBM, she worked with an agency behind IBM’s corporate events – mentoring others on IBM's culture, products but also gaining fresh perspectives. 💙 So what brought Sandi back after nearly 20 years? The IBMers. The culture. The curiosity. And the thrill of helping shape IBM’s future in the age of AI. What a night at IBM’s One Madison flagship office! 🌃 What started as a simple idea—invite a few former colleagues, share some refreshments, and reconnect—quickly grew into a vibrant evening celebrating legacy, innovation, and community. 3 things we learned: 🤝 𝗔𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗻𝗶 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗜𝗕𝗠𝗲𝗿𝘀. This started small and quickly took on a life of its own growing to 150 attendees. 🤔 𝐂𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐟𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐞. Instead, he landed his dream job at IBM as an Expert Labs Seller. 🚀 One standout moment? Helping the University of Auckland launch a watsonx-powered chatbot that transformed how students access information. “Seeing it become a public reference story was a proud moment,” Joe shares. Yet the travel dream never faded. So he made a bold choice — stepped away from IBM and spent 12 months exploring 30+ countries, meeting incredible people, and gaining a fresh perspective on life and work. 🎒 “Returning to IBM was always the plan. 🌟 When the past meets the future – A special moment at IBM Chemnitz/Germany We recently welcomed two extraordinary guests to our IBM location in Chemnitz, Germany: Margret and Dr. Claus Dieter Heinze, a former IBM couple who retired back in 1992/93. Full of curiosity and a desire to reconnect, they returned to experience IBM once again and see how the company has evolved. What followed was more than just a visit. It became a journey through time, a dialogue between generations, and a beautiful reminder that curiosity has no age limit. 💡 Over coffee and inspiring conversations, we explored the frontiers of AI, Hybrid Cloud, and Quantum Computing. Their thoughtful questions and genuine excitement moved us deeply — proof that the spirit of innovation lives on in those who built it and those who carry it forward. Their energy was contagious. Jim, a seasoned IBMer from Atlanta, US, remembers: “when I started at IBM as a software development engineer in Research Triangle Park, I never imagined that a conversation with a sales team would change my entire career path.” 🤔That moment taught him something powerful: “Be open to new opportunities, even if they take you out of your comfort zone.” Transitioning from development to sales gave Jim a front-row seat to understanding clients, building relationships, and driving business outcomes. “One of my proudest moments was closing a major deal that transformed our branch’s performance — proof that taking risks can lead to incredible rewards.” 🎉Over the years, IBM opened doors he never imagined— leading teams, becoming a Vice President, and now coaching the next generation of IBMers succeed. 🎯 His advice: Listen actively — to clients, colleagues, and mentors. That’s where real insight begins. "Stepping away taught me the value of partnerships and gave me a fresh perspective. When I returned to IBM to help launch our first RISC-based system, I came back stronger, more experienced, and more determined than ever. Kathy manifested her dream! 💫 “IBM was my dream company during college, and I received my first co-op offer in my freshman year! One of the most memorable experiences in my early years was helping launch a groundbreaking initiative for field sellers.” she said. After leaving IBM, Kathy was leading strategic supplier relationships and customer-focused programs in the utilities industry. 👀 But IBM stayed with her. Working elsewhere gave her a deeper appreciation for IBM’s culture. She realized how transferable her IBM skills were across industries, and how valuable her knowledge was. Eventually, she returned, ready to learn new things.🌱 “I recognized that, while I had gained valuable new experiences, my technical skills needed to evolve. 💡 IBM’s focus on cloud technologies presented the perfect opportunity. I pursued cloud certification and rejoined IBM, excited to contribute to its next chapter of innovation.💥 Learning a new product area has been both challenging and energizing, and it’s opened the door to a whole new set of skills and experiences," Kathy said.
