At Crescent Communities we believe that art is an integral part of delivering on our mission to Build Community and Better People's Lives. We are proud to welcome our newest (and biggest) community builder to The River District — otherwise known as "Big Pete with the Big Feet." This extraordinary public art installation from world-renowned recycled materials artist, Thomas Dambo, reflects our steadfast belief in the power of art to bring people together and our passion for sustainability. Foundational to the vision behind The River District, this community brings that belief to life as one of only three projects recognized by Bioregional as a One Planet Living Leader in the US. “At Crescent Communities, we believe public art is a powerful tool for building community,” said Aldo M., Chief Creative Officer. “Across the country, our communities are shaped by the idea that people connect more deeply to places where creativity and culture are part of the everyday experience. Bringing Thomas Dambo’s work to Charlotte reflects that vision – it’s not just about what we’re building, but about how we can spark moments of joy, discovery, and connection for everyone who comes here.” Art is a part of the fabric that makes a place feel alive, inviting, and meaningful, and we are ecstatic to help bring this landmark to the Charlotte community in partnership with Lesli Marshall from Articulation Art. Many people helped bring "Big Pete with the Big Feet" to Charlotte, and we want to thank our colleagues and volunteers for all their hard work and dedication in bringing him to life.
