The Australian Institute of Architects has released a consultation draft of the Outline of Services, a new document defining architectural service stages, tasks and deliverables. This framework is a tool to promote informed, transparent discussions around the architect’s scope before it occurs, providing visibility over essential work that might otherwise be overlooked. Developed by the Large Practice Forum, this framework supports clearer client-architect relationships and aligns with the Institute’s broader advocacy efforts. Feedback is open for six months, so go check it out and share your perspectives. A Member Lean-In will be held early in the new year. This is a deft and comprehensive undertaking, and we thank and celebrate the contributors: Michael Blancato, Nick Bourns, Minnie Cade, Lucy Carruthers, Lisa Jennings, Nigel Morris, Harry Nicholas, Matt Pirrie, Tobias Pond, Wendy Poulton, Anne-Marie Treweeke. https://lnkd.in/g3dyX-7q

EmAGN WA (the Institute’s Emerging Architects and Graduates Network Committee) is thrilled to invite you to the 23rd annual ‘3 Over / 4 Under’ forum, happening Thursday, November 13th, 2025! Since 2003, ‘3 Over / 4 Under’ has been a dynamic platform where three established and four emerging practitioners from architecture and related disciplines share their ideas, philosophies, and design journeys through a series of concise and thought-provoking presentations. 🎨 Theme: On: Spectrum This year’s forum explores the diversity of perspectives that shape design thinking, from process to perception, emotion to expression. We’re delighted to welcome this year’s incredible lineup of speakers, a diverse group of architects, designers, artists, and thinkers whose work embodies the spirit of On: Spectrum. Each brings a unique lens to how we perceive, shape, and experience the built environment. 🌈 Speakers: ⭐ Michelle Blakeley – Architect, Michelle Blakeley Architect ⭐ Seán McGivern – Director, Kerry Hill Architects ⭐ julian bolleter – Co-Director, Australian Urban Design Research Centre ⭐ Emily Duncan – Associate, Woods Bagot ⭐ Big Al (Alice Ford) – Artist ⭐ Jeremy Marriott – Founder of Insight Architectural Consulting & Equity Taskforce Committee Member ⭐ Amy Clark – Interior Designer 🎟️ Tickets link: https://lnkd.in/gcjAARHH Event organised by Marco Pais Da Trindade & Matthew McGivern (EmAGN WA Co-Chairs) Graphic design by Sharaan Muruvan, Suwini Alwis and Nguyen Bui (EmAGN WA Media Team) Proudly sponsored by EmAGN WA Premier Partner Fielders #emagnwa #3over4under #3O4U #architecturecommunity #architecture #graduate #network #onspectrum #designthinking #fielders #keynotespeaker #emergingarchitects

Championing Better Places for All Australians Last week, Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) President Heath Gledhill joined leaders from the Australian Institute of Architects and the Planning Institute of Australia at Parliament House for the launch of the Parliamentary Friends of Urban Design. The event brought together parliamentarians and design professionals to highlight how thoughtful, integrated urban design can help tackle Australia’s biggest challenges — from housing and climate resilience to community wellbeing. As Heath shared, “Urban design is the connective tissue that makes cities work. When we design for people, nature, and place, we create communities that are not only liveable, but lovable.” Together, we’re advocating for national leadership in design excellence – ensuring that how we plan and shape our cities reflects the best of who we are. #LandscapeArchitecture #AILA #DesignForPeople #CityShaping #LiveableCities

Join us for a conversation on Unconscious Bias in Architecture Practices, a live webinar presented by the Australian Institute of Architects’ National Committee: Gender, Equity, Diversity, Impact. 10 November 2025 | 1 PM (AEST) Live webinar and on demand 1 Formal CPD Point FREE for all attendees Drawing on insights from the Institute’s 2023 Diversity and Inclusion in the Architectural Profession survey, this session explores how unconscious bias continues to shape the profession from recruitment and promotion to the everyday culture of practice. Led by: Marika Neustupny FRAIA, Director, NMBW Architecture Studio Associate Professor Dr. Peter Raisbeck, University of Melbourne Felicity Menzies, Diversity & Inclusion Consultant Together, they’ll examine how informal norms, mirror-hiring, and aesthetic conformity can limit diversity of thought and innovation and how embedding inclusion into the systems and culture of practice strengthens both ethics and design outcomes. Congratulations to Sophie Barrett, recipient of the 2025 Philip Y. Bisset Planning (Architecture) Scholarship! Sophie, a Master of Architecture student and team member at m3architecture, will use the scholarship to explore water-sensitive urban design in cities leading the way on climate adaptation — including Wuhan, Rotterdam, Hamburg, Copenhagen, and Zürich. Her research investigates how international models such as sponge cities, water squares, and flood-adaptive boulevards can inform Brisbane’s approach to flood resilience and sustainable growth. “If our city is to continue to grow sustainably, we must design neighbourhoods that can withstand heavier rainfall while reducing stormwater runoff,” says Sophie. “By studying global precedents, I hope to identify scalable strategies that help Brisbane’s communities thrive.” The judging panel commended Sophie’s project for its depth, clarity, and relevance to Queensland’s future built environment. Join us in celebrating Sophie and the ongoing legacy of the Philip Y. Bisset Planning (Architecture) Scholarship, which supports emerging architects to gain global insights and bring them home to Queensland.
