From Skipton to the Southern Ocean, Corangamite Shire includes the townships of Camperdown, Port Campbell, Terang, Noorat, Princetown, Derrinallum, Lismore, Simpson, Cobden and Timboon. Facts about Council: Population: 17,188 Area: 4,600 square kilometres Number of Employees: 190 EFT Number of Councillors: 7 Number of Wards: 5 Elections: Every four years Length of sealed local roads: 905 kms Length of unsealed local roads: 1,298 kms Key Historical Dates 1857 - Hampden and Heytesbury Road District is proclaimed on 25 April. 1862 - The Parishes of Terang and Glenormiston are annexed to the Road District 1863 - Shire of Hampden is established. First president is Dr. Daniel Curdie. 1886 - The ‘Italian Style’ Shire Hall is built in Manifold Street and is still used as Council offices to this day. 1895 - County of Heytesbury is formed with a population of 3,076 residents leaving Hampden Shire with 5,500 residents. 1952 - Camperdown becomes a separate municipality – the Borough of Camperdown. 1994 - Amalgamation sees the Shires of Hampden, Heytesbury and the Town of Camperdown combine to form the Corangamite Shire

  • This week, our CEO and Councillors joined fellow members of the South West Victoria Alliance (SWVA) at Parliament House in Melbourne to champion the needs of our region. In a series of impactful meetings, members of the SWVA spoke with key decision-makers including Treasurer @Jac Symes, Agriculture Minister Ros Spence, and Roads, Ports and Freight Minister Melissa Horne. They also met with Nationals Leader Danny O’Brien, Shadow Treasurer Jess Wilson MP and Shadow Local Government Minister Bev McArthur MP. Together, we highlighted the pressing challenges facing south-west Victoria - from drought and deteriorating roads to housing shortages, workforce skills gaps, and energy reliability. This united advocacy effort is all about securing a fairer future for our communities.
