Eastern Health recognised at Victorian Public Healthcare Awards Eastern Health has been recognised for their work in innovation and high-quality care with two awards. Congratulations to Jackie Orwin, Rosie Addison and Lyndal Greenwood for receiving the Strong and Sustainable Workforce Award, the Social Work team introduced Allied Health Assistant roles and streamlined processes, reducing staff turnover by 29%, improving referral response by 60%, and freeing up 5,440 hospital beds. Rahma Health in partnership with Eastern Health, was awarded the Excellence in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Award as they codesigned, community led health resources accessed over one million times, transforming care for refugee and migrant families across Victoria. Congratulations to Eastern Health staff members and part of Rahma Health, Naba Alfayadh, Sahar Abdullah, Sanyogita Tara, and Hussein Alabodi.

“I try to be that key contact person and ensure the smooth running of our Lilydale and Healesville campuses, because all roads lead to me in one way or another.” Suzannah Edwards, Facility Coordinator and Admin Manager for Eastern Health Lilydale and Eastern Health Healesville, plays a vital role in keeping our sites running smoothly. From security and administration, to being the key contact for staff, consumers and families. Her leadership helps ensure every person who walks through our doors has a positive experience. When she’s not supporting our teams across Lilydale and Healesville, Suzannah recharges through cooking and beekeeping. “Beekeeping reminds me to slow down and enjoy the moment, you can’t rush it, and it keeps me mindful and grounded.”

Celebrating the breadth of research at Eastern Health. The Eastern Health Institute hosted the Annual Research Forum as the centrepiece of Research Week (November 17–21). The Forum featured dynamic presentations from researchers across a variety of fields. Throughout the week, posters have been displayed around Box Hill Hospital and the Eastern Health Institute showcasing a breadth of research. Nursing graduates given outstanding opportunity. Since 2019, Eastern Health has partnered with Alexandra District Health, for the nurse grad program. This allows new graduates the opportunity to experience a six-month placement, working in a rural hospital, providing a breadth of experience to jump-start their careers.

On Remembrance Day we join the nation to pause and remember those who served or lost their lives in wars, conflicts and peace keeping operations. We will remember them. Lest we forget.

New technology for breast cancer screening funded through community support. The Eastern Health Breast and Cancer Centre at Eastern Health Maroondah has received a new Lumicare Unit to support breast screening services. Breast Sonographer, Jenelle Williams has seen first hand how the new Lumicare Unit has improved patient care. "We use the unit to sterilise the probes in-between biopsies, its actually 14 times faster than our prior unit. This not only improves our workflow, but it also lessens the anxiety of our patients, who are waiting for their procedure." This would not have been possible without the support of Shades of Pink community, and their collaboration with the Eastern Health Foundation.
