Our 2300 people are united by a clear purpose. To lead and accelerate the clean energy transformation for all. We keep the lights on for customers today, through our energy generation facilities powered by coal, gas and renewables, combined with large-scale storage. And we’re leading the delivery of the clean energy system of the future, with projects that will provide flexible generation and enable the growth of renewables. We’re making the transition simple for our 1.6 million customers. We are committed to reaching net zero emissions by 2050. As part of this we’ll transition out of coal by 2040, in a way that doesn’t leave communities or our people behind. It’s all part of leading and accelerating the clean energy transformation with reliable and affordable energy for all.

The world is getting weirder. To those of you in corporate affairs land, welcome to the fun.   Yesterday I was warmly welcomed at the Communication and Public Relations Australia conference at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne on navigating complexity when everyone’s watching – customers, regulators, media, employees and the internet’s collective conscience.   Here’s what I shared about what keeps me up at night (and excited in the morning):   Two thirds of Australians think business leaders are lying to them. Cool, cool, cool. No pressure then. We’re attempting “the biggest engineering project in our nation’s history” (my MD’s words) while politicians around the globe can’t decide if coal is beautiful clean fuel or a climate villain. Pick a lane folks. Remember when you could call a journo, say “that’s not true” and they wouldn’t run it? Yeah, me too. Now there are some (admittedly only a handful and not those who have been around like me who value relationships) who run with your denial buried at the end. Or worse, without it entirely.   Here’s what I’ve learned though. You can’t prepare for everything, but you can:   - Build reputation like you manage finances (measurably, strategically, relentlessly). - Be where your audiences actually are, not where you wish they were. - Make sure every employee understands their role in protecting reputation. - Have crisis plans that don’t gather dust until you actually need them.   The really exciting part? Corporate affairs has never been more important. We're not just protecting reputation anymore - we're indispensable partners in building success and survival.   Or as Socrates put it: "The way to gain a good reputation is to endeavour to be what you desire to appear."   (Though I doubt he had to manage it across TikTok, LinkedIn, Instagram, traditional media, and whatever Elon renames Twitter next week.)   Thanks to everyone and who came along and for the great questions afterwards!

Senior Manager - Affordability and BPO Operations at EnergyAustralia

We wrapped up our final Financial Counsellors Conference of the season in beautiful Adelaide for South Australian Financial Counsellors Association; always a favourite way to end the year. We left feeling energised by the passion and dedication in the room, and inspired by the incredible work being done to support the humans who need it most. This year’s theme, Game Changers, was a powerful reminder of our shared commitment to continue working together to move the needle toward a fairer and more equitable system for all. A reoccurring message throughout the conference was clear: the system places a significant administrative burden on those already facing financial difficulty. It’s on all of us to help break down these barriers and bring the help directly to those who need it, while ensuring their dignity is always protected. We’re leaving the season enthusiastic and optimistic about the change we can continue to drive together. A heartfelt thank you to everyone in the financial counselling sector, the difference you make in your communities is profound and often unseen. And a huge thanks to Alexandra Fry the team at SAFCA for helping us finish the conference year on such a high note. • Mentoring can unlock more than just skills, it can unlock confidence and clarity. When Roxanne Sabet joined our solar team in early 2023, she didn’t expect that a mentoring relationship would have such a transformative impact on her career and personal growth. Her leader saw potential in Roxanne and connected her with Julia Heslop, Asset Leader at Jeeralang Power Station. “I’m from the Philippines, and confidence isn’t something we’re always encouraged to develop,” Roxanne shares. “My leader thought mentoring could help me grow in that area. I didn’t know what to expect, but Julia was incredibly generous with her time and experience.” Over the course of a year, Roxanne and Julia met monthly, mostly virtually, with a few memorable in-person catchups, including a tour of Newport Power Station. From their very first session, they set goals and even wrote a mini contract to keep themselves focused. “In our last session, we looked back at what we’d achieved, and I gave Julia feedback. It felt like a real partnership,” Roxanne says. Julia’s mentorship left a lasting impression on Roxanne, showing her what’s possible when balancing career ambitions and personal life. “She’s inspiring. She completed her MBA and the AICD Company Director’s Course while raising young kids. She showed me that it’s possible to excel in both career and family life, and to protect time for what matters most.” With Julia’s guidance, Roxanne stepped into a six-week leadership role to cover for her manager’s leave, navigating conflict and making decisions with confidence. The mentoring also helped Roxanne clarify her career direction, move into a more technical role, take on more responsibility, and have her contributions recognised across the business. Julia says mentoring is about unlocking potential. “Roxanne already had the ability, she just needed someone to help her see it and give her confidence. Mentoring is powerful, and it’s not just about sharing knowledge, it’s about helping someone, particularly women, see what’s possible for themselves. And it’s a two-way street. I learned a lot from Roxanne too.” Julia’s experience mentoring Roxanne inspired her to set up the Women in Operations Mentoring Program, launching next year, helping more people across EnergyAustralia benefit from guidance, encouragement, and support.

  • Workplaces are where people bring their whole selves, their stories, challenges and hopes. Our Family and Domestic Violence Working Group hosted a powerful session with guest speaker Liana Papoutsis, who shared her lived experience of domestic violence and the complex legal system that often follows. Liana’s message was both confronting and empowering, reminding us that the workplace can play a vital role in offering safety, understanding and meaningful support. “Creating a safe and supportive environment starts with awareness, but it doesn’t end there,” said our executive sponsor, Daniel Nugent. “It’s about equipping our people to recognise, respond and refer when someone needs help.” In Australia, 1 in 4 women and 1 in 13 men have experienced violence by an intimate partner. For many, work can be the one place they feel safe, and that’s why conversations like this matter. A heartfelt thank you to Liana for her courage and insight, and to our Family and Domestic Violence Working Group for leading such an important conversation.

  • Energy projects aren’t just about energy. They’re about people, place, and the long-term impact they leave behind. That was the message Cath Russell shared at the All Energy Conference, where she explored how energy projects can create real and lasting value through community benefit and revenue sharing. Across regional communities, the opportunities are clear. Thoughtful investment can strengthen local resilience, fund what matters most, and leave a legacy that lasts well beyond project delivery. Cath highlighted examples where partnerships are making tangible change, from upgrading local facilities and creating jobs to supporting skills, environmental, and cultural programs. The key is moving beyond a corporate template and tailoring benefit sharing to fit the local story. Through new projects and transition initiatives, EnergyAustralia is working with communities to deliver social infrastructure, local programs, and long-term initiatives that reflect their priorities and their future. It’s an exciting time to see what can happen when benefits belong to the community as much as the project.

  • Australia’s transport sector is on the move, and so are the ideas shaping its future. From airports to ports, bus depots to distribution hubs, one message continues to resonate: electrification isn’t just about plugging in. It’s about planning ahead. That’s the message our Green Transport team has been sharing across the country. Two weeks ago in Brisbane at the Airport Electrification Conference. This week at All-Energy in Melbourne, where our Green Transport Leader, Joo Yin Ong, joined a panel led by Bjorn (BJ) Siem from the Electric Vehicle Council. Next week, Jack Kotlyar will be sharing the information at the Bus Industry Confederation Conference in Perth, followed by the Ports Electrification Conference in Sydney. Across every discussion, the themes are clear: Engage with your distributor early - no power, no project Understand why your charger might not always deliver what’s on the box Consider how integrated solar, battery, grid and generator solutions can help manage costs and reduce the impact of outages At EnergyAustralia, we’re helping businesses stay one step ahead as transport networks evolve. Joo Yin’s insights are driving conversations around smarter energy integration, practical innovation, and reliable infrastructure that supports customers today and into the future. Because progress in transport isn’t just about technology. It’s about making energy work better for everyone.

  • We’re back again with Pranita and Perla from our Vulnerability Team 💚 This time they’re answering: “When someone’s doing it tough, how does something like energy costs become a bigger issue?” For many people, an unexpected charge can snowball quickly, adding stress to an already challenging time. But support is available, and often the first step is simply reaching out. At EnergyAustralia, we want customers to know they don’t have to face these situations alone.
