Our People and Communication team recently had the pleasure of attending a 𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 presentation from one of our 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 participants Mark, who shared his story of rebuilding his life after a serious workplace accident 20 years ago. With the support of his family, friends and care team — including icare — Mark has found new ways to stay independent and keep doing the things he loves, especially his woodwork. As Mark put it: “𝘐’𝘥 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘢𝘯 𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘰𝘯. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘮𝘦 𝘢 𝘣𝘪𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘯, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘥 𝘢𝘸𝘦𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵. 𝘐𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘴 𝘮𝘦 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘐 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘥𝘰 𝘪𝘵 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘢𝘵 𝘮𝘺 𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭. At 𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗡𝗦𝗪, we recognise 𝗔𝘀𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝘀 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 as an important reminder of the ongoing risks posed by asbestos in homes, workplaces, and communities across the state. Many workers in NSW continue to face potential exposure, which is why accessible, proactive health monitoring remains critical. icare provides two free services to support workers and employers: • 𝗗𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗦𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗞𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗰 Workers can book an appointment for lung function testing and health assessments delivered by our specialist team. • 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝘂𝘀 Our mobile screening unit travels across NSW, making it easier for workers—particularly in regional and remote areas—to get checked close to home or work. These services help identify dust-related conditions early and support safer workplaces across industries. We acknowledge and thank SafeWork NSW, the Asbestos Diseases Foundation of Australia and Sophie Cotsis MP their advocacy and ongoing partnership in protecting NSW workers. If you or your team may be at risk of exposure, we encourage you to learn more about our screening services and take the step to get assessed. This Asbestos Awareness Week, the Chris Minns Labor Government is calling on employers, workers, and home renovators across the state to remain vigilant to the dangers of asbestos exposure. Asbestos is still present in 1 in 3 Australian homes, as well as in public and commercial buildings. More than 4,000 Australian lives are lost every year from asbestos related diseases. National Asbestos Awareness Week (Monday 24 November to Sunday 30 November) serves as an important reminder on the importance of safety in handling materials that might contain asbestos. In 2024-2025, approximately 126 cases of asbestosis, and 269 cases of mesothelioma were reported in NSW. A total of 213 deaths from asbestosis and mesothelioma have been reported. I would like to thank SafeWork NSW and the Asbestos Diseases Foundation of Australia for their ongoing support and advocacy.

We're so proud of the great work Kahi Puru is doing to spread the message of safety in workplaces across NSW. Thanks for sharing FTI Group!
What a way to celebrate a major safety milestone! Thanks for coming Kahi Puru. Kahi spoke about losing his leg in a workplace forklift accident and the devastating impacts of this for himself, his family and his work mates. Since then he's represented Australia in bench press powerlifting at the Sydney Paralympics and become a Safety Ambassador for icare NSW - what an inspiration! Safety is the top priority at FTI Group - a small split-second decision could change your life forever, it's on all of us to 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲 so we can 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲 so we can go 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲. Cheers to 365 days with no LTI's, team! And congratulations to the kids who won the safety competitions! #SafetyMatters #Safety #WHS #NationalSafeWorkMonth #Safer
