The Metro Tunnel is officially open! This is the biggest transformation to Melbourne’s public transport network since the City Loop opened over 40 years ago, and we’re so proud to have been part of it from start to finish. From tunnelling deep under Melbourne’s CBD and building five iconic underground stations to delivering complex rail systems and operating trains, this project is a true showcase of what John Holland does best. Our Cross Yarra Partnership (CYP) and Rail Network Alliance (RNA) teams made it all possible, and the journey continues with our CYP Asset Management Services team keeping the tunnels and stations running smoothly for the next 23 years. • The future of rail is bright! 🚊 What an incredible few days at AusRAIL Plus 2025 exploring how rail is transforming cities and regions across Australia. We’re proud to be part of this transformation every step of the way with our end-to-end rail and transport capabilities from design and construction, right through to transport operations, we’re thinking about the whole rail lifecycle. A big highlight of #AusRailPlus2025 was our Managing Director, Rail & Transport, Steve Butcher, speaking about how rail is driving renewal and connecting communities, homes and opportunity. Regina Wootton and Aman Mangat also shared powerful insights on how flexibility and innovation are shaping the future of our industry. Huge thanks to everyone who stopped by our stand for a chat – it was great to connect with so many passionate people across the industry! #JohnHollandTransformingLives #AusRailPlus2025

  • Longer trains and improved journeys in Melbourne’s west 🚊 Our North Western Program Alliance (NWPA) has been awarded the contract to deliver works for the Melton Line Upgrade, in partnership with the Level Crossing Removal Project. The $650 million project will include platform extensions at Cobblebank, Rockbank, Caroline Springs and Deer Park, enabling 9-car VLocity trains to run on the line a year ahead of schedule. This upgrade will boost passenger capacity by 50% on peak services starting in 2027. The new project is in addition to the work we’re currently doing to remove two levels crossings in Melton and Dandenong. Since 2017, we’ve proudly worked alongside the Victorian Government and our Alliance partners to make Melbourne safer and more connected by removing level crossings, delivering new rail stations and infrastructure, and creating open spaces for communities across Melbourne. #JohnHollandTransformingLives #NWPA #LevelCrossingRemovalProject #JohnHollandRailandTransport

Tunnelling in the deep! ⬇️🌊 TBMs Jessie and Ruby have both achieved a major milestone on the Sydney Metro project, tunnelling 35 metres under the water’s surface to pass beneath the deepest point of the railway alignment under Darling Harbour. This section is the last of the challenging harbour crossings for the TBM drives. The slurry TBMs were cutting through a mix of hard and soft rock beneath the Harbour and at high water pressure, which means they’ve had to tunnel at a much slower pace than traditional open-style Sydney Metro tunnel boring machines. No matter the conditions, our world-class tunnelling team is getting the job done. Each TBM now has less than 700 metres of tunnel left to build to reach their final destination at the future Hunter Street metro station in the heart of the Sydney CBD. The TBMs will continue their journey under some of Sydney’s most iconic streets, including York, George and Pitt streets and pass underneath Wynyard Station to reach the Hunter Street station cavern. Track laying and station construction will follow, bringing Sydney another step closer to the opening of the new line. We’re proud to be shaping the future of Sydney’s transport alongside Sydney Metro and our partners CPB Contractors and Ghella ANZ. #JohnHollandTransformingLives #SydneyMetro #Tunnelling

Jack Batty is showing that male allyship in construction isn’t just about good intentions – it’s about taking action that drives real change. As Rail Construction Manager on our Canberra Metro project, Jack has built a team where women now make up more than a third of the workforce – in an area of construction where female representation is often less than 10%. He’s also challenged systemic barriers: ensuring part-time senior roles are possible and advocating for women to receive the qualifications and recognition they’ve earned. His leadership proves that allyship can transform opportunity in construction. This commitment to creating opportunities for women and driving real change has earned him the 2025 NAWIC ACT Male Ally Award. Jack was one of three John Holland employees, nominated across four categories on our Canberra Metro project recognised at this year’s ACT NAWIC awards, celebrating excellence across the industry. ⭐ Jessica Allen (ACT Young Achiever and Achievement in Engineering) ⭐ Lyndsey Kim (Leader in Construction) Congratulations to Jack, Jess and Lyndsey! #JohnHollandTransformingLives #NAWICACT
