From 10 December 2025, a new law will require social media users to be 16 or older. This means young people under 16 will no longer be able to hold accounts on platforms like TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, YouTube, X, Threads, Reddit and Kick. The new law is designed to keep young people safer online, by reducing exposure to harmful content and addictive platform features. It’s about helping our young mob stay strong, safe and connected - both online and in real life. Families, schools and communities all play a role in shaping healthy online habits. Together, we can support our young people to build stronger relationships with family, friends, culture and Community. #VMC #OnlineSafety #DigitalWellbeing #YouthSafety #StrongerCommunities #StaySafeOnline #MulticulturalVictoria

We’re pleased to share a short video reflecting on the 2025 Regional Advisory Forum held in June, where more than 100 community leaders, government representatives and sector partners came together for constructive discussion. The forum focused on six key issues shaping outcomes for multicultural communities: mental health, family violence, housing, employment, youth justice and racism. The Victorian Multicultural Commission continues to work with government, agencies and communities to progress the recommendations raised on the day. Teachers are the foundation of Victoria’s future. As our classrooms grow more diverse, there is a growing need for passionate educators who reflect the communities they serve. The Victorian Government is offering a range of supports to help more people pursue a teaching career, including: • Scholarships for secondary teaching • Earn-as-you-learn employment-based degrees • Mentoring and professional development • Incentives to teach in regional Victoria We encourage multicultural Victorians to consider this rewarding pathway - to not only inspire young minds, but help shape a more inclusive future. Last week, our Chairperson Vivienne Nguyen AM joined thousands at the Shrine of Remembrance for the 2025 Remembrance Day Commemoration. The ceremony honoured Australian service members who lost their lives in wars and conflicts, with moving tributes, wreath-laying and moments of silence to reflect on the sacrifices made for peace and freedom. This year held special significance - marking 50 years since the end of the Vietnam War and the arrival of Vietnamese refugees to Australia. In her address, Vivienne paid tribute to the 523 Australian soldiers who lost their lives during the Vietnam War, acknowledging their service in a country many had never known, in defence of values we still hold today. Vivienne’s reflections were featured in national coverage of the ceremony: 9News – watch from timestamp 9:09 - https://lnkd.in/gCQGrBbb 7News – watch from timestamp 7:25 - https://lnkd.in/g3nZUSaa #VMC #RemembranceDay #ShrineOfRemembrance #VietnamWar #HonouringService #MulticulturalVictoria #SharedHistory #LestWeForget

Last night, the Victorian Multicultural Commission’s 2025 End of Year event brought together 400+ leaders and community members at Broadmeadows Town Hall for an evening of vibrant performances, powerful dialogue and shared celebration. From Sri Lankan and Italian dance to inspiring speeches and panel discussions, the night reflected the strength and diversity of multicultural Victoria. We heard from the incredible Ingrid Stitt MP, Minister for Multicultural Affairs on the importance of the Commission’s role in fostering inclusion across the state, from VMC Chairperson Vivienne Nguyen AM on her reflections over the past year, and from VMC Director Kashif Bouns, who shared the Commission’s achievements and strategic priorities for strengthening multiculturalism in Victoria. On 11 November each year, we pause to mark Remembrance Day, the anniversary of the Armistice that ended World War I. At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, millions around the world observe a moment of silence to honour the sacrifices many have made. It is the time that we remember those who fought, suffered, and gave their lives in wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations. Their courage and resilience have brought the peace and freedom that we cherish today. The Victorian Multicultural Commission pays tribute to those who have served and continue to serve our nation, contributing to Australia’s defence and peace efforts. They deserve our deepest gratitude and respect, not only on this significant day, but always. We will remember them. Lest we forget. #RemembranceDay #NationalPride #ServiceandSacrifice #LestWeForget #MulticulturalVictoria #VMC #UnityInDiversity
